DJ Aldrin - Zouk Resident
If Zouk has a musical ambassador, it’s Aldrin. Since beginning his residency in ’96, he’s become Singapore’s most internationally prominent DJ, flying the Zouk flag throughout the four corners of the world, garnering acclaim at every stop from press, punters and fellow DJs alike. Aldrin’s global profile is bolstered by the reputation he commands on home turf – especially since Muzik cited him as “one of the world’s finest residents”. Having played a crucial role in building up the vibrant dance scene in Singapore, Aldrin packs out the club with faithful fans every month on his headline night “One”.
Prior to this, Aldrin’s plaudit list was already nothing short of impressive, having begun the millennium as the first Asian to be Muzik’s DJ of the Month and being named “a contender for Best New DJ” (February ‘00). Following that, he became the first Asian DJ to appear on the cover of Muzik Magazine, with credit for mixing the magazine’s “most on-form CD” (March ‘02). All these, along with superstar DJ Danny Tenaglia singling him out as his future DJ hero (DJ Mag Top 100 poll, November ‘02), has propelled Aldrin onto the international platform.
Renowned for his massive fusion of percussive-tribal-tech house, Aldrin has consistently thrilled crowds of thousands with his flawless, genre bending sets. At the same time, he has proved versatile and innovative, developing his own deeper, more organic house set for smaller and more intimate settings. Abroad, Aldrin has been spreading his vibes all over Asia, Europe, and North America, becoming a regular in-demand guest fixture at nights such as Renaissance in London, Pacha, Space and DC10 in Ibiza, plus a special appearances at Danny Tengalia’s Be Yourself Party during the Winter Music Conference in Miami, and also at Arc in New York. In fact, Aldrin was referred to as Asia’s number one DJ to catch in Ibiza last summer (Muzik, July 2003). Next month, Aldrin will be touring the UK again, which includes his first ever UK festival – Wild in the Country (www.renaissanceuk.com).
Between his residency at Zouk (where he is also the DJ booking manager by day) and his increasingly hectic global DJ schedule, Aldrin has been working on producing his own music, one of which “Lettitla’s Dream” was recently featured on Digweed’s playlist on his Kiss 100FM show, and have now been snapped up by Bamboo Music, Australia. Aldrin has also just compiled and mixed CD1 of Zouk’s first double CD compilation entitled Rhythm1, which received rave reviews in DJ Magazine (5 star rating, November 03); and IDJ Magazine (4 star rating, January 04).
Aldrin’s growing global status has also caught the attention of Pete Tong, who invited him do a 2 hour mix for his world-renowned Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1(18th January 04). Also, UDG – the makers of DJ bags and accessories that have taken the DJ world by storm, recently appointed him as their first South East Asian ambassador. Fast gaining unanimous global recognition as one the finest DJs anywhere, Aldrin is set to make a massive impact on the global dance scene!
