Holland review

anycrew
Hello TA's,
It's been a while since I've chimed in so I thought would write a review of my trip to Holland. I just got back lastnight from 9 days there touring with my department at UF. It was a school trip, but i still managed to experience a little bit of the music scene there.
On Liberation day which is their Independance day, I think, I went to downtown Haarlem to a big outdoor music festival. I would guess about 20k in attendance. We traveled there by bus and at the bus stop was a club with a speaker outside blasting "Hardstyle". I'm no sort of expert on genres or anything but I had never neard of it here in the southeast. The style to me is kinda like when tiesto gets on crack sometimes and starts playing random noises with a banging bass line. I was with some peeps so I couldnt hang out in that club like I wanted. But admission was free, so i went in to take a leak so i could listen a little more. I think gcrasher would like this "hardsyle" as much as I did. As we entered the gates to the festival , there were peeps walking around all wasted with beers in each hand still drinking. The Dutch sure can party. I've also never seen more mohawks in my life. There were many vendors and tents, one had this trippy thing called the "dream machine" where you sit in this tent and they play music with these virtual reality glasses on. They need that at Ultra most definitely. The music was ok. some regae band playing to this drum and base beat. Fun to dance to while drinking orange bitters
Visited several greenhouses on the trip and at almost all of them there was Electronic music playing in the background. Even in all the stores in amsterdam it was playing. Definite contrast from the states.
On saturday, i dragged a friend to a club in Haarelem in the industrial area. It was in this old giant brick warehouse. Inside was 2 really big bars and dance floor a little bigger than club space. Drinks were purchased with tokens, which saved time at the bar. They even had red bull on tap, how cool. Music was prog. with some trance. very good for random dj's. The last dj was joined by a band with bingos', bass guitar and bass guitar. did a great job that really picked up the energy. I was totally shocked, cause typically i wouldnt like "live "acts. I even got my friend interested in trance and he wants a starter kit of cd's. Any suggestions? All and all a beautiful country with super friendly people who love to party. Heres some random pics. more to come later.
