Editing DivX movies

Hey everyone need some help.

Ive got a DivX encoded MPEG movie that i need to trim... (the files 707MB - Cds burn maximum 704MB  , encoders suck at times eh?! ;):D )

Anyway can anyone let me know of a good program which i can use to trim the file a bit (say cut some film off the credits or off the start).... and do it easily.

Cheers....

Lethal! :)

Hahaha Leigh... I know how you feel, I often had that problem until I bought a DVD writer. You can get one for around $190 these days.
Just this morning I made a data DVD of 409 MP3 tracks. It took a while to compile & fix tags and filenames! You can fit almost 4.5GB on one DVD.

Even the crappiest movie editor (windows movie maker:nervous: ) will allow this. Just open the file up in windows movie maker, and it will automatically cut each individual take/roll (a take/roll is usually defined as a segement of the movie that's seperated by blackspace) into a seperate file. Not all takes/rolls in a movie are usefull, so you can elect to cut them out out, trim them etc. You could probably just cut the credits and you would have your 5Mb difference ;)

TMPGenc -- direct stream copy mode (audio+video)

30 second job.

Actually I think I remember splitting avi files using Virtualdub or Nandub. Get one of those programs. Read detailed instructions on doom9.org on how to split divx-encoded video files. As bragi said, use direct stream copy mode, otherwise it will take an extremely long time.

Thanks hyper.... VirtualDub is the one! I knew I'd used something better than TMPGenc for splitting... but was buggered if I could remember the name :)

Couldn't you just overburn it with Alcohol 110% or something?

nah i dont think i can joel...

Ive yet to find a 700 MB cd that actually has more then 705MB of space on it... 650 usually go up to about 660 but 700 are a lot tighter on space - the current ones ive got tell me they have 704MB (according to nero's test section) so im still 3MB short!

Ill give virtual dub a go if i can get hold of it!! is there a shareware version or am i going the sem-ill-legal route here??? :D
bragi
VirtualDub is GPL software, therefore completely legal to use when downloaded for free.

i'd recommend virtualdubMOD

it handles VBR audio streams, whereas virtualdub will re-encode the audio stream from VBR to CBR (which knocks the a-v sync completely outta wack).

oh yeh, i burnt 717MB onto a cd-rw just before so give it a go :)

nero will pop up the box where it'll tell ya that it has to finalize the disc, just click ok and you should be on your way.

although with overburn, nero does have this warning that the disc might not work at all, so its best to play around with an rewriteable first, unless you're a fan of cd coasters :p

You can get 90 minute CDs, I had bought a few at 50c each.
You can fit quite a bit more than the standard 700MB.
You just have to use the overburn feature in Nero.

After getting a DVD writer, CDs are useless now, other than for making audio CDs for CD players.
