This Week @ SHAPE...
Darren Pearce aka J.D.S.
(TCR/Punk Funk/Rocksteady/FFRR/Rhythm Syndicate/Finger Lickin' - London)

THE DJ: Darren Pearce aka JDS began DJing almost 18 years ago - discovered by Graham Gold at a local gig, he was then given his first break at the infamous Peach where he is still resident today! His diary is filled with various guest spots at clubs in the United Kingdom, Canada, Asia and he endures almost monthly trips to the USA by popular demand! Darren in the past was voted number 61 in the top 100 DJ magazine world. Through Darren's Peach residency he regularly broadcasts live DJ sets on Kiss 100FM.
THE SOUND: Darren has an ear for advanced music, he is an innovator. Over the years he has taken his unique blend of melodic techno / trance and progressive beats right up to his fresh break beat sound of today, his unmistakable and distinctive trademark that is reflected in his own production.
THE PRODUCER: Few people actually realise exactly how much production Darren has been involved in, due to the numerous guises he works under! Darren has worked with people such as Steve Mac (Undercover) - together forming Gems for Jem - and a few years back had huge success with various dance anthems such as 'Lifting Me Higher' and also as D'enrico with 'House Of Love'. Darren is currently enjoying success with studio guru Julian Napolitano (Perpetual Motion) as J.D.S. Together they are responsible for the classic break beat anthem ‘9 Ways’ on FFRR that even got a play on UK soap Eastenders. Past JDS hits included ‘Punk Funk‘ on Rhythm Syndicate and London Town on Pepper.
The latest JDS track has been titled ‘Blackout’ and was snapped up by Rennie Pilgrims world renowned TCR imprint. ‘Blackout’ is being dubbed the ‘biggest Break Beat track of the year’ with current support coming from Rennie Pilgrim, Plump DJs, Lee Combs, Freq Nasty, Stanton Warriors, Anne Savage and Adam Freeland. JDS ‘Blackout’ has appealed to so many genres of dance music that Judge Jules made it his ‘tried and tested’ track on Radio One in January. From the success of this floorfiller JDS have remixed the new Moloko single and Ten Sui for Finger Lickin. Darren also has his own label, Black Liquid Records, which he has held a catalogue of Break Beat hits to release for 2004.
THE COMPELATIONS: Darren mixed numbers 15, 16 and 17 in the top selling Reactivate series. Due to the ultimate success of the last three and Darren's constantly rising profile he was asked to mix Reactivate 18 as well. He will be the first artist to mix (a record breaking) 4 consecutive Reactivates!! Darren also mixed a ‘Golden’ cover mount CD for Ministry Magazine back in March which has also been utilised for Australian Ministry.
