Chicago area music??

DJ Fin
I'm not surprised at all that this forum has routinely been about the international DJs since that is what drove many to join in the first place. Do you support local DJs? If so, who? Where? What events do you go to that have local DJs playing music relevant to TA?

This is not intended to bash anyone or be condescending in any way. It just seems that logic would dictate that this thread will get few responses and that most people only see the talented locals who open for the bigger names. Remember, we're not talking about traditional House here, but music that could be featured on TranceAddict!

Your thoughts???

(I'm only concerned with the Chicago area in this thread, so please mention if you are talking about outside of Chicago.)

I think that the CTA's are interested in much more than just trance - you see many of us at non-trance shows (such as Garnier, Zabiela, etc.) and we use this forum to keep up to date on events etc. I try to support my locals, but most local nights are weeknights and I its hard to go out during the week. But, some of my favorite local dj's are Mazi, Kyle Szmurlo, Hiplito Sanchez (all of which are non-trance dj's). I've even flown to London to see Mazi spin at Fabric :)

I think it's more of a sign of the times that people don't really support locals anymore. Before the internet age, local DJ's were the lifeline to underground dance music, and could play stuff that was years old and still be considered legends.

Now, so many ppl have all the most up to date info on everything happening all around the world, be it on any given DJ, producer, or label, that the locals guys can't really compete with the big guys, now that someone like AVB or Tiesto can be just a radio show, email, or download away. It doesn't even matter if any given local DJ is any better (or world's better) than any of the superstar (and many are), the superstars are the ones that get all the attention.

The one thing that's going to get locals to rise above is production. That SHOULD get more ppl in your area interested, but it's not a guarantee.

Either way, I've pretty much given up on seeking out local gigs, and am spending most of my energies on producing lately. That and a little bit of time on getting out of town DJ gigs, but not a whole lot.

i still jam to Q101's Sonic Boom. but before it was better. i remember Justin Long, Lego, and Nosmo (1/2 or Grayarea) playin on that. Nosmo played the Grayarea remix of Gentle Rain last yr on that show.. its really great to see em all get bigger. DJ Heather is from Chicago. amazin DJ and one hell of a vocalist by the looks of her DJ Mag mix CD. i know Soundbar's got alot of local DJs playin at it night in night out. right now, i'm not too sure who plays on Sonic Boom. i know Green Velvet does his thing on there (what a maniac.. dudes got some serious techno killers in his bag.. i still remember he played the original of The Rapture's House Of The Jealous Lover.. hahaha..
