Hey,

one of the hard drives in my friends computer has been making whirring sounds whenever u turn the pc on for a while now.

mine has just started to do this as well. Both hard drives work perfectly, its just this strange sound when you first turn the computer on.

Any ideas on what this might be? Am I gonna have to buy a new hard drive?

is there a cd still in the drive? it may be the cd you hear whiring?

Are they old HDD's?

Theres no cd in the drives. The hard drives are only about 2 years old.

Its probably not the hard drives. It's probably the cooling fans that are making the noise. The bearings are shot in the fan and you will need to replace the whole fan.
