the choices that I am aware of in the $200 to 400 US range are these:
Stanton SMX-501
Vestax PCV-180
Vestax PCV-275
Numark Matrix 3
what other choices would you suggest to someone seeking a solid mixer with good features, sound quality, reliability (longevity) in this $200-400 price range? any particular brands i should avoid? had a good or bad experience with any i've listed? thanks for any input... |

Yeah, the SMX-501 is bad, but the 401 is pretty good.
Eclers are good mixers as well. |

why do you say that the 501 is so bad, yet the 401 is good?
the layout is almost identical, they seem very similar in features, and probably use most of the same components. how could a newer version of a product be worse than its predecessor? |

Ecler Smac30 = ugliest mixer I have ever seen. What an eyesore.

:wtf:
I don't have any experience with Ecler, but check out the HAK360 if you're considering them.

Personally, I would go with a Vestax PCV-275 if I had that kind of money, either that or a Numark PPD01, add some effects . . . :D |

| I am going to have to agree with you on this one. That Ecler is butt ugly. However I have only heard good things about its sound quality, build quality and over all feel. I am torn between getting a new mixer like the Ecler or the PCV-275 or waiting and getting a really good mixer (A&H Xone32 or Rane Empath). |

| ok opianstate, first of all, the ecler that u suggested over the smac pro30 is a scratch mixer. all of ecler's hak line is made specifically for scratching and i doubt that is what aspiringdj is looking for. also, i dun think it looks butt ugly. i have mine sitting on my desk right now and it looks perfectly nice the way it is! :wtf: |

just got a smac pro 30 couple of days ago. love it, esp. compered to the crapy rm3 i had. And it looks great with my 1210s.
ive seen trancinchink and chex recommend this mixer so much they either really love it or work for ecler. i bet they just love it, as do i. the sound and eqs are dreamy. i'd say go with that or the 275. |

| I have a PCV 275 and it's really good for what it's worth. I think the booth and master outputs sound very good and the headphone outlet is also puts out a nice signal. The EQs are decent (no probs), the faders are very good, and overall, I haven't had any problems with the mixer and I've had it for a year now... the EQ cut switches are nice to have, if you're into that kinda thing, they are effective (complete cut-off). I think the only problem that some ppl might have is that the cue (headphones) or monitor is post-EQ ... but if you mix post-EQ anyways, that shouldn't be a problem... happy mixer shopping! |
