The key animator for that sequence was Maeda Mahiro, who also did The Second Renaissance (Part I & Part II) for Animatrix.

I've only recently been getting back into anime.. I've downloaded a few fansubs - Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Full Moon Wo Sagae. both in the mahou shoujo style..so lots of young girls with magical powers and the like, hahah.
I'm loving Kodomo No Omocha (Kodocha/Child's Toy) at the moment. one very zany and hyperactive romantic comedy :D
NGE is the all time favourite. absolutely brilliant stuff..never fails to get me all emotional, hah. damn good theme song as well
I also used to read manga (specifically Peach Girl), but I don't these days..

I remember seeing ninja scroll ages ago - shocked the out of me. Was the first anime I'd seen.
