The club is very classy with a nice atmosphere. Mychol Holtzman's signature style certainly shows through in the decorations. The club is roughly the same size as System's main room but split about half and half between seating areas and dancefloor. Sound and lighting are courtesy of Vertex (who did the installation for Viva), and everything seems to work well in terms of not being too subtle or too overpowering.
The crowd is very diverse ... with a common factor being that everyone seemed to be friendly and up for it. I would say that no more than half of the crowd was gay (it's hard to tell sometimes!). Think Boa on Saturdays but a little more ethnically diverse like Guvernment. We left shortly after 3am so I cannot truly comment on the sketch factor considering the club is scheduled to stay open until 7am. I was honestly surprised to see such a strong turn-out considering the promotion had been fairly limited. The place appeared to be around 2/3 capacity.
As the flyer indicates, Glam Boutique's music format is tribal and vocal house. Nice and dirty without getting into "circuit" territory. We left about an hour into Mark Oliver's set and he really had things going with some darker stuff. The crowd was still going strong too. I'm happy to have a Friday night venue to see Mark spin which is a bit more accessible than Viva (not just distance-wise, but also his timeslot).
Glam Boutique is certainly something fresh in Toronto's club scene .... and much needed. |

definitley something fresh.....
It's not a bad club.
walking in from spadina; Glam is the second floor of the old Tropicana/mandarin club, right across form BOA.
you walk up the stairs and are greeted by some very nice, yet still cheesy Romanesque paintings ( Venues in her shell, etc.)
After seeing the club ontuesday night, the only worry I had was the smell from the fish market nextdoor, and to my surprsie the smell of smoke and people, actually does pretty good job of masking the odor.
Got there around three am, and was walked in, as I should be. Why should anyone ahve to wait to get into a club anymore, especially when I am responsible for most of the flyering for them.
Didn't catch any of mark's set, which I was disappointed by. The asthetic of the place is very victorian; chandeliers, beautiful gold lamay patterned couches, a velvet feel to the walls, carpet( WOW!!!), it is complelty set up for comfort and debauchery.
The sound is a little bottom heavy, but there is a lot of sweet spots throughout the club. Very easy to navigate, even with the smoke and lasers( yes they have lasers that do not come on unitl around 3ish) The satin glass windows on the ceiling are a wonderful tocuh.
everyone was very friendly and up for it. A diverse crowd, but not really sure where it will end up going. The kicker to the establishment is the private rooms; six of them, that can be rented for the evening.
I look forward to see how this place turns out.
