When we went up to Sydney we stayed in the Best Western on the corner of Wentworth and Liverpool (forget the actual name though, sorry). It's 3.5 stars (which is good enough to live in, but cheap enough to keep out those grumpy rich types) and despite copious amounts of drinking, smoking and company in our room we were never told off by anyone (I always felt kinda dodgy walking past reception with a slab of beer though :p). One of my friends who had just moved up to Syndey from Melbourne was staying with his mates in the same hotel in the floor above us (by pure coincidence - we never arranged to stay in the same place) and one of the highlights of the trip was when we stumbled home drunk at about 3am one Friday morning, bumped into him outside and ended up back at his room smoking weed and talking absolute till about 5.30.
