Is it worth getting new these headphones w/o a warranty if i will save about 100 bucks off retail. i can get em for 130CAN on ebay, new. they retail for 229+tax.

For you Sony MDRV700DJ owners, how long do these last in bedroom conditions, i hear lots of bad things about the durability of these headphones.

ps. im bent on the sony's dont bother recommending others.

about two years in my bedroom, a half dozen times playing out and they are still going strong. the only time i put them in the little bag they come with is when i'm taking them out to a gig (not very often). i love them.

Well warranty wasn't an issue with mine(for reasons I won't discuss) so even though mine broke, I got them fixed and going again.
You can't go wrong with the 700s...yeah there are "higher quality" headphones out there, but a 700 isn't a bad choice at all.
Plus, your bent on Sony products like me, so go for it...
dj_moonshine
i am loving them, they wont break very easily. i always take good care of them when im not using them, that way they stay in a good condition. so i think ur getting a good deal on ebay, so i would say go for it... good luck.;)

the soundquality compared to sennheisers, technics and stantons is much bader...i would never buy a v700. 2 of my friends own them and the sound is sooo much bader then the sound of my sennheisers. i played with tiestos stanton, sennheisers hd280, hd25 and the v700 and the differences between these headfones are big! the v700 is a mainstream headfone. when u only use them to listen to some music then u will take the right choice but if u want real quality buy another one. u will hear the difference when u use quality a long time.

no bashing now plz its just my opinion :) thx

In my opinion, the Sony MDR-V700DJ is a poor buy, especially without the warranty. The sound quality is just meh, and those hinges can break after just a few months. And if those hinges give out on a unit without warranty after just one day, then you'll have to pay $200 CDN -- and yep, the entire headband, which is expensive, must be replaced in order to fix the hinges -- just to have it fixed, and without a parts warranty, that repair cost would have been nearly double what it would have been if the parts are warranteed! And yeah, those hinges may break after just a few weeks even under bedroom conditions.

In bedroom conditions it wouldnt matter. If you take care of them and dont mistreat them you will be fine. even in club conditions (granted you treat them kindly and dont mash them all over or bend the way they arent suppost to go) they will last years. Ive had mine for 2 years as of current. I originally had MDR-V6's (those i use only in my studio now)

Hey there,

While I have converted to the ranks of Senns HD25 users I will still happilly say that the Sony 700s are a good choice for DJs. One of the things we look to when playing out is the volume that they are able to deliver.
Appart from the durability issue the thing that swung it for me more than anything else in favour of the Senns was isolation of sound nothing more.
While it's nice to have a pair of great sounding headphones, as a DJ it isn't your first concern.

Take care of them and they do last for a long time even when the cracks appear they are not necessarily a problem. But then one day the inevitable will happen which can be annoying to say the least.

Besides you sound as if you have already made up your mind so what we say doesn't seem as if it will make much of a difference. ;)

If it's just the audio experience you are after then I would strongly ask you to reconsider.

Cheers

:)

I have never used a better pair of headphones to be honest. While I never liked the HD25sp or the HD280s, the HD25 are awesome. I used the the Sony 700s for years and can't fault the service they have given me but the HD25's are just the best.

My 2 pairs of Sony 700's have been very good to me, just don't let anyone use your cans and be careful with the hinges. If they do break, like Eazy E used to say.. "Throw it in the gutter, and go buy another"

:p
