Working Abroard

Misty Kitty
I've been chatting to my house mate and she has travelled and worked abroad extensively (actually she is giving me itchy feet). She did the one yr working visa in oz, where she did in actual fact save over a grand in a few months fruit picking, or working in an all night kebab shop and farming camels.

As long as you are willing to slum it doing the back packing thing (ie sharing a two bedroom flat with 8 ppl) then you will have no problems saving money and probably the time of your life doing it.

If you want something more secure apply for jobs before you go, i'd try both independantly and through agencies. Might as well cover all options

yeh, but with agencys they take a chunk out off your wages to pay for them selves, thats with these tempary jobs anyway.

thats a common misconception.

the agency charges who you work for a small amount on top of your wage.

i got paid 5er and hour, the agency charged my workplace 6 quid an hour.

I think that you would find it very difficult to save money while travelling. Fruit-picking etc is a way to get by while you're out there, often paying you accomodation and pocket money only. Most people i know who have travelled had to temp for ages to be able to afford to go, temping is where the quick and easy money is. I got £5.50 an hour at Virgin Trains and could work more or less when i liked.
