Building a "studio" in my basement, pics or tips anyone?

So I am turning my basement into a studio/lounge set-up. My room is about 13 x 18. I want to put it in the corner of the room, but not face to wall. So it will start in the corner, one side runs along the wall, the other comes off the wall. The part that comes off the wall will be where I set up my decks/mixer.
Is it possible to angle a battle-style mixer? Or can I only do this with a studio mixer?
I want to build something with mdf/speaker carpet, etc to drop my euipment into, hide wires, etc.
I am not planning on going crazy and spending a lot of money. Something that looks nice and is level and functional.
I know there is a thread where people post pics of their set-up but it is time consuming and filled with comments, not pictures.
My basement has a drop ceiling. I plan on soundproofing the ceiling using just standard insullation. If someone has a better idea, let me know.
Is there a site where people post how to do it yourself, with plans or something? Materials needed? Or a site with a bunch of pictures on what people have done?
What about expansion? Should I build it with extra space for future upgrades?

13 x 18 isnt enough info to build on, you said you dont want to devote the entire space... so how much space are we working with? Take an approximate measurement of the wall and see how much you want want to run along the wall, and how much you would like to run accross the room. Im just letting you know now, that the countertop will have to be atleast 20" wide.
My room is 11x12 (I just took measurements) and I have a design layout for my room which does run against and face the wall, but if turned around could work as you like. It is 7' long and 3' in depth - the reason for the length of the table is because I will be using this table for DJing as well as producing. BTW I have a sketch of it that I made using paint (and it has appr. measurements).
If your only going to be using the unit for DJing, than you will need approximately - 4' to 4 1/2' (48" to 54") length of a table. |

I am not using the entire room for the set-up. I will also not be producing in this room.
I have put some thought into this and this is how far I have gone with it...
This is going to be a dj studio/chill-out room.
it is in my basement with poured concrete flooring so the floor isnt perfectly level. I am going to build a frame for the floor that is 8' x 6', then lay it with plywood and then put a tight matted carpet over it. it will be screwed into a stud in the wall. now i should have a level floor.
from there...
the 8' length will be along the wall. there i want to build a desk type of piece with 2 shelves 12" deep that run along the wall on top of that. i can store my vinyls there and keep my monitor for my computer on the desk piece. the tower can go underneath.
the second piece will be the console piece. first i am going to Home Depot. I am going to buy a 36" wide base cabinet that is meant for a kitchen, in white. No doors for the cabinet. I will use shelves on the inside for my receiver or any other pieces that I upgrade to in the future. base cabinets are fairly high, unlike a table. think about your kitchen countertops. this should give me enough height with the console piece so that i am not bending over much. i can use shims to level it from below, just in case.
on top of that i will build my console. the base cabinet is 24" deep. the console will be that as well and be 5' wide. so it will end up sitting on this like a T, extending past the base cabinet about 1' on each side. obviously i will secure it to the base.
the console has to fit my 2 TTs, my cd player and my mixer. i want everything to be straight across, so ....

i wouldnt mind and elevated shelf above the console so i have that spot to put stuff on, and even a shelf underneath the console to store stuf in. its not a necessity though.
i want everything to be recessed into the console so all you see is the tops of the tts. the TTs will sit on 1" foam.
i do want to angle the mixer but i have a battle style mixer and i need access to the front. i may jsut put a hole in the console that will allow me access.
then i am going to paint everything the same color (side unit, base and console.
ideas?
opinions?
do i build it for a battle style mixer or build it for a studio mixer (just in case)?
do i build it to fit my current cd player since i hate it (axis 8)?
TTs are all pretty much the same size so i dont think changing from my current numarks to techs will make a difference.
do i build it to fit a second cd player?
