well trance is only in stereo (unless its some wanky-wank wank corsten dvd), and since most of your resources will be vinyl / mp3 / cds, then 2 speakers is all you really need.
speakers are really about how much money you have, as the more you spend, usually the better speakers you are going to get.
Are you looking for active (powered) speakers or ones to run off an amp? which if you dont have, will cost a bit.
anyway youve asked a very general question, so depending if you want to DJ, of are looking for just desktop computer speakers will all depend oon what you want to get. |

As already asked, do you have an amp??
If you do then I got a pair (only 2) of Wharfedales on my desk, 100W RMS each, so you're gonna need a decent amp.
VALDUS 200s Got them on sale for $300 at JB a few months ago.
They blow you away when you wanna listen really loud. But are crisp as anything when you just wanna take it easy.
Good for DJing as the noise in front of you as you would in a DJ booth.
And it leaves me the option of getting another pair for the rear and a centre. You need an amp that has 5.1 channels.
If you don't have an amp then you're gonna need powered speakers, not sure about prices, but you're going to be hard pressed finding something for $3-400 that's decent.
And on the other hand, amps are expensive as well. My Sony 5.1 channel cost around $800, and it's by no means one of the best.
Hope this helps.

if you're thinking of getting speakers for $400-$500, DONT
get yourself a nice amplifier and then rummage around garage sales etc for some form of pissy shelf speakers while you save up for a decent set. Jamo i understand have some bloody awesome speakers, and a 5.1 set of 2 towers, 2 shelves, a centre and a sub will cost you prolly around 2500 or 3000 from jb hi fi if you're good at haggling package deals
get a good amp and work your way to a goal of good speakers is my advice |

If you are looking for PA speakers that reproduce Trance really well. I have 2 of these for sale:

^^^
They have a really clean midrange sound which is what you need for Trance as the melodies and vocals are in the midrange. You also need a good deep bass so you'd want to have a sub |

| 5.1 is for music - cant be assed argueing this point if anyone disagrees :p. Go to a garage sale/church sale/specialist audio store. Just find two sturdy speakers n an amp. You may laugh at my suggestion of a specialist audio store, but the one down from me in Balwyn (Melbourne) called 'Intersound HiFi' sell some wicked old systems for feck all moolah. |

Yeah that helps, although I do not need like industrial powered speakers just ones that will do the job but still be good quality at the same time because i only need them for my computer. I am not fully aware of like what makes speakers louder but i assumed it's how much watts they have and if you have an amp or not. But in this case i am not in need of an amp as i don't think i need that amount of power for what i want.
If i only need a 2.1 sound set then could some1 suggest some models??

| The amount of sound comin from ur speakers does depend on the wattage and sensitivity. An amp putting 200watts thru 2ohms to a speaker (which has to able to handle it) will be much much louder than 200watts thru 8ohms. But yee, for 2.1 systems, TDK and JBL both have wicked lil packages which 1. look phat, 2. sound great. Logitech have a nice one too but its ugly n e :p |

Get Klipsch Promedia's 2.1
Don't bother with 5.1 audio unless you're a hardcore gamer like me and even then i just use headphones for gaming as i don't have the space and for stereo reproduction eg. trance you only need 2 channels eg. 2.1 and klipsch are the best.

On sale at www.microdirect.com.au for $349

The horn in Klipsch speakers (I found) make them sound WAAAY to 'bright' for me ie. harsh on the ears.
If you want to know about speakers have a search through the forums at www.avsforum.com/ When I was searching around for speakers that is the website that I did alot of my 'research' on.
However, at the end of the day THE best bit of advice you will get is to listen to lots of speakers and whatever sounds best to YOUR ears are the ones to buy.
2c worth :)

PS. FYI I have Monitor Audio speakers (UK) and love them. |
