I dont think its that bad
I mean, its not legislation. There is no gov't involvment right? As long as the FOIP is in place, they cant keep records either.(legally) Its private buisness who wants to keep tabs on their customers. If you dont like their rules, go to a non swiping bar.
They have a system like that in place at a few calgary bars that had problems with violence.
it didnt do a damn thing to stop it.
the best thing is the wandering drunk/fighter scenario.. |

| well, it would bother me if it was at a big club that i frequent... like sonar, commodore, all those places. just seems a bit creepy to me, and privacy-sketchy. |

you need a warrant to access anyone's personal history.. and I HIGHLY doubt that the system would be connected to the POLICE database.
if that then SUE SUE SUE |

the thing is tho, bar owners and operators will have access to your info. and what kind of information will they be storing? your address? just name? date of birth? in a few years they may start selling your info to advertisers, which is almost guaranteed to happen if the system catches on. the system may later require that you have BC ID or BC drivers license which will descriminate against those who dont have either one
i dont like this being implemented at all. being in the field that studies all this crap, you start thinking about a whole whack of scenarios, and orwell's 1964 is very much related to this technology
i actually see big clubs using this technology as they are the most likely to afford it and be interested in it to keep safety and attract more customers who fear for their safety and are ready to give up their identity, which is probably the majority.
my 2 cents |
