Review + photos Paul van Duck Reflections Party 12-09-2003 Frankfurt Germany

Friday 17:30 we left Amsterdam for the border to meet up with Dennis who was working in the eastern part of Holland. He and his girlfriend decided to go with us to Frankfurt to see Paul play.

The 100km to Arnhem took us 2 hours, because of all the traffic jams. In Germany we put the pedal to the metal, driving up and down the hills with 180km/h so we would be in Frankfurt in time.

In the city centre of Frankfurt, also called Bankfurt or Mainhattan because of all the skyscrapers, we got lucky not to get stopped by the police, drove into some oneway streets and took a few buslanes to arrive at the KFC parking just after 23:00.

The Union Halle looks great. An old industrial complex turned into a place with restaurants, clubs and chill-out area. Very stylish! The site reminds a bit of the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin, just a lot smaller.

After getting our names checked at the door, we started looking around a bit. Nice interior, beautyful women, good soundsystem... very interesting! But where to put our jackets?

After 10 minutes in the Union Halle, we were already packed with goodies: Zippo's, partypics, keyrings... It's always fun to recieve these items, especially those who actualy come to use.

Uhrmacher was still playing when we stept on the dancefloor. He played Power of American Natives, which I hadn't heard in a long time. But as were excited for Paul, we kinda missed the rest of his set.

Paul came up in a gletscher blue envirement, with a crowd that looked classy but was well-excited. I won't name all the tracks he played here, but Crush, Spellbound and the Starchaser remix were my favorites for the night.

Just before 03:00 the power went out. Although some say it's the fire alarm, we think it was Deborah's fault. Something was smelling bad behing a covered box. She lift the black sheet to see what was going on. The amps hidden there got an overdose of fresh air and overpowered. We heard a sound and suddenly everything went black.

Paul looked around surprised about what happened, and everyone just stand there looking at him as if he was responsable. Too bad he was just playing a pretty funky track...

We left for the cars to get some sleep, which was quite a success. The next morning a visit to the city centre was planned. Our cars were parked at Karstadt, a good place to start a small Frankfurt discovery. Best fun was our visit to the skyscraper, which gave an amazing view of the city, the airport and the hills around town.
