DDoS worm spreading
Simon Wright | Today, 12:15 pm | World news

A new fast-spreading worm is causing headaches for Australian ISPs who are reporting an overload of calls from confused customers asking why their computers are spontaneously restarting.

The worm, MBlast, takes advantage of a Microsoft Windows RPC exploit which can be easily patched by running WindowsUpdate.

Ironically, in four days the worm will start a distributed denial of service attack on Microsoft's WindowsUpdate servers. Get those patches while they're hot.

This also effects NT and win2k from what I've read.

Funny the advisery's been out since mid July, and it's only reared it's head now worldwide as something today ;)

omg thanks so much for this thread, i was about to kill my computer. this happened last night while i was typing up a presentation that was due today, i was going crazy. Eventually i turned my modem off as I figured it has something to do with a remote location, but until then I had no idea why this was happening. Now to remove this stupid little worm.
