My first post - Van TAs 26 years and older?

Hey you guys,

This is my first post here at tranceaddict.com. I only found the site yesterday and was anxiously waiting my account to be activated so I could write a post. I am really thrilled to find a forum like this for Western Canada.

I am a relative newbie to trance and progressive house music. Until a year ago I never knew the genres existed. I had heard of them, but I was so uneducated that I thought the music that they spin at The World on Granville Street for afterhours was trance music until I was "re-educated" that they played nothing but house.

That's when I started snooping around the web and doing a lot of research and names like DJ Tiesto, Sasha, Digweed, Northern Exposure, Dave Seaman, Majik 6, In Search of Sunrise 3, Global Underground, Tranceport, Sander Kleinenberg, etc. first entered my life. I've never been the same since. It's been an incredible year of discovery, and I'm even more enthused now than when I first started.

It's interesting how a person's tastes mature and evolve. My first "trance" CD was Trance Party 2. I thought it was the greatest thing that ever happened and it was my first encounter with music that made the hair on your neck stand up and waves of euphoria roll over you. Now it's long been relegated to the back of the CD cabinet in lieu of "real" trance music.

Aside from that first purchase, I did it a bit backwards for a newbie. I did so much research and heard so much negativity about the "commercial cheese" being offered today in the name of trance that I started with the earlier works of the great names in trance. My first purchases were In Search of Sunrise 3, Majik 6, Tranceport, Northern Exposure: West Coast Edition & Aarmin Van Buuren's Transparence 004. It's been quite a ride and now I can't stay away from the stuff. I rarely used to listen to music and now I have my trusty CDs with me everywhere.

Anyway, enough of a rambling intro. I notice on this site that most of you are a fair bit younger than I am. That doesn't particularly bother me, but I would be curious if there are other guys/gals out there twenty-six years of age or older? I'd be interested to connect with some of you.

I'm away from Vancouver for about three months working in the States, and I have no clue about any type of trance/prog house scene in Vancouver. I'd really enjoy being able to find out about it and getting in the loop for when I'm back. I think that's one of the reasons I'd like to find out about people my age, if there are any. As much as I enjoy the music and think it transcends age, I'd feel more comfortable hanging out with people around my age than being a lone thirty year old (almost) in a sea of eighteen year olds.

Hope to hear from you guys!

well, i guess welcome :D

you might be surprised to find out that a majority of Van TAs are in their twenties. we even have someone in his thirties. but when it comes to something as trance, age is irrelevant, its all about the music.

research is good. one album i would strongly recommend is Gatecrasher - Global Sound System. i dont think you'd be able to find it in north america in retail stores, but if you ever get the chance to purchase it, it's definately worth it. there haven't been many great trance releases on CDs lately, but ferry corsten's mixed live in LA is good for big anthem tracks. as for prog house, dj heather just did a nice set at sonar and it was released on a cd last month. another good canadian release is soundtrack to club culture: guvernment on hi bias recordings.

as for vancouver's scene, ph1 guys and danny (24k) are doing an excellent job maintaining a good one. ph1 does some nice techno nights at sonar and danny with sean play good trance/prog at viva in richmond. also, kevin shiu plays good prog house at lotus lounge in van. and then there are the big gold club and twisted parties.

this is probably all i can tell you as a newbie, other than, enjoy the music. doesnt matter if someone thinks something is cheese, as long as you like it :)

btw, my name is elena

cheers

Hey man, welcome to the community.
I myself am only 17, have lover electronic as long as a can remember, and hope I will be lucky enough to get into the industry. Personally I don't think age has anything to do with it. I am just as comforatable talking to a thirty year old about music as I am a 17 year old; if they know what they are talking about, that is.

Thanks for your comments guys! I just figured some of the young bucks wouldn't be too keen on an older guy "crashin' the party." Nice to know it's otherwise.

I don't know much about the Gatecrasher label yet. I have the Gatecrasher Red CD waiting for me when I return to Vancouver, so I'll get a taste of them I guess.

Talk to ya all later!
