TRUE DAT......

Kiddies nowadays are drinking well before there 18. so by the time there 21 they should have around 6 to 7 years experience on the piss. And if they can't handle there booze by then, they should be placed in the piss weak category and given a bit of this:whip:. If there dumb enough to drive after having a few to many they deserve what ever happens to them. As long as they don't hurt anyone else. But life's not perfect is it.

I wise man once said 'Legalise drugs'.

apparently they are bringing in a new law, if you get caught drink driving you still get the same penalties as before, but pretty soon you will also have to put a huge sticker on both sides of your car saying "drink driving, it's a crime"

i think it's a great idea!!!

i could imagine a fully sick bro going by in his souped up car advertising against drink driving ;)

i don't see much problem with the limit as it is now, like dave said a will be a no matter what age. as long as there is good education for kids about the effects and stuff of drugs, and about peer pressure etc then it should be ok. if people choose to drink at 15 or 16 then they should know what could happen to them and the effects. if thats the choice they make then so be it. i chose not to drink when i was younger because i was afraid of losing control of myself and doing something i would regret. personally i think alcohol is too much in our culture and our surroundings and i would think that more people die from alcohol related incidents than heroin or marajuana.

Personally i believe that it's all about personal choices, as an individual you choose whether or not to consume alcohol. Yes it is a major problem within our society but how can upping the age limit stop teenagers and alcoholics from becoming addicted. It can't really, instead of going through the whole formal process of passing the bill, this money could better be spent on preventing problems associtated with alcohol.
This is just another prime example of australia being americanised... coz we all know we want to be like them :nervous:
GEORGE BUSH for Australian prime minister

So far, States have initiated underage drinking programs to help combat this terrible debacle. Although more money needs to be put into these organizations for better results.

Good luck in finding the money to run such programs, the australian government doesn't hesitate in getting involved with such mindless activities, for instance Iraq... imagine what we could do with the sort of money that was spent over there with our health and education system.

Inforcing such laws as the one you have described will only make teenagers think that its "cool" to drink and we all know rules were meant to be broken ;)

I started drinking when I was 12 and I turned out ok I think :nervous:

I think it's more the "cool" image that needs to be targetted, not just the drinking. It's like at 15 people get pissed and they suddenly become cool and socially acceptable. Many of these kids may feel socially pressured and drinking gives them more confidence in themselves as well as getting their mind away from it all. It also fits in with their 'rebel without a cause' attitude.
I'd say most of the alcohol is consumed at house parties where it's legal at any age anyway (if the parent/house owner is present).

As for the drink driving, the police could just open more booze busses. The penalty is harsh enough, they just need to bump up the 5 or so % chance of being caught (i never run into booze busses!) At like 12-5am theres no traffic anyway, and I'm sure they'd generate enough revenue from alcohol related and speed fines to keep them going (can't remember but there was some astonishing number of speed fines recently).

Raise the drinking age to 21? Now that's a laughable idea. Raising the legal age is not going to discourage young people from drinking. People are going to drink no matter what age they are.

Instead of focussing on something like the legal drinking age, the government should concentrate on educating young people about the effects of alcohol, and how to drink in a manner that is safe for you, and for other people. The positive connotations that some people associate with activities such as binge drinking, to some extent, can be combated with education programs, and the use of the media. And even if not everyone learns from such programs, that doesn't mean that these programs are a failure. It's irrational to think that the government is able to alter all of society's perception on drinking. There will always be certain people in society that will associate binge drinking with being "cool", and I don't think there's much the government can really do about that.

Like increasing funding for more "drink drive you're a bloody idiot" campaigns and adverts??? :conf: Well im sorry to say this, but they had no effect on me whatsoever, and i still drink 6 bottles of tequilla before stepping into the car, and refuse to drive with a blood alcohol reading of anything less then 1.05

no wait...:nervous:

come to think of it :nervous:

after being subject to some of those adverts, the exorbanant trauma i suffered from their graphic depcictions of death has left me in a fragile pysyhological state, where i continually weep by my bedside everynight, frightened and distraught about the ramifications of drinking another VB. :nervous:
