i've been playing this game for about a year now but there are many i know who've been playing this one for like 3, 4, even 5 years still.
it's the best game i've ever seen in my life and 100% free.
the game is called Subspace (aka Continuum). It is broken down into different zones all using the same ships design and level design techniques, but different ship settings (bullet speed, etc.)
by far the most popular zone is Trench Wars

dude, give it a 2nd try... some guys have been playing for years as i said before and have become extremely skilled at it.
play for like 2-3 months and you'll be starting to kill them back. it's such a basic game but is so fun if you've been playing more than a couple days. |

I was into this back in 1997/1998 and had friends who got really addicted to the point where they almost failed one of our comp sci classes.. lol
Lag was a problem back then.. especially when it started getting popular - but it was always a lot of fun |

I never knew someone was going to mention Subspace on this forum :D
And yes, this game is so addictive.
But so far no one said anything about the goal of this game.
Like someone said earlier, there is a lot of servers to play on, and each one has its own game, rules, way of playing, etc. In other words, each server is a "game into a game".
But basically, its a 2D spaceship game (imagine Atari Asteroids on steroids.) You are teamed with others players to achieve an objective.
You dont really like spaceships? Its not a problem anymore - the game is now flexible enough to play other games. For example: hockey, soccer or any type of balling games, racing (for people actually playing: there is a new arena in trench wars that imitates mario kart on the super nes. ?go mario), tanks, etc..
Usually, the game is played with flags that you must either own or carry (like in first person shooters CTF), own a base, I may go on all night. Also I just want to point out that some servers are actually mimicking the world of Star wars, too.
Anyway.
