The 4th annual open-air experience happens July 18, 19, 20, 2003.
Music and Visuals
Pied Piper Paul (New Zealand/UK) psytrance, Transient Records
Paul began DJing in 1983 playing music from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Then, in 1986, he quit and set out traveling for six years before eventually settling in London, England. There he discovered the exploding underground music scene and moved & grooved to different beats around Europe before discovering his passion for goa/psytrance and techno. This intense passion prompted him to begin DJing again in 1994. Since then Paul has become one of the very finest DJs in the world. His amazing sets of playfully-aggressive minimal psytrance have ripped open the sky, expanding minds at festivals in 22 countries on 6 continents! He regularly headlines main stage at events with up to 30 000 people. These include Voov (Germany), Fusion (Germany), Zoom (Switz), Boom (Portugal), Rainbow Serpent (Oz), Outback Eclipse (Oz), and Vortex (South Africa). Don’t miss Paul’s long awaited return to Canada!
Mer Ka Bala (USA) psytrance, 3 man live pa/visuals, Spacedub.org
Mer Ka Bala is heavily involved in the desert party scene of the US. This group of three men perform live using synths, effects units, and other assorted hardware in conjunction with live-mixed visual projections of mind boggling detail. Avery Runner aka ElfArrow aka Chavrin founded SpaceDub in 1995 after having become spiritually influenced by modern electronic music. Blending the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism, Native American ceremony, and other esoteric traditions with today’s dance experience, Avery has worked toward a symbiosis of technology with nature to return to a balance here on our planet.
Sevin (USA) deep progressive, Gruvlabz, spacedub.org, wackyshack
Sevin is a neuroscientist by day, dj by night! His unique style of dark, tribal, and psychedelic trance has developed through playing at many desert parties in the Southwest US. Yet he is just as comfortable playing deep sexy house as he is banging hard trance....depends on the atmosphere he says. In addition, Sevin is a graphic designer, contributing to many party flyers and animations for VJ's.
Sokos (Montreal) twisted techno, Meson Octet Records, Discord Disco Productions
Ben Sokos is well known in Alberta as the guy with the strange tunes. “Sub-trance” as he calls it, is techno at its most experimental- still danceable, but unpredictable and very interesting creating a really different feeling. He plans to play primarily German style at Motion Notion.
Huey (Vancouver) retropop/breakbeat, Vestax, Swingkids, djhuey.com
You’ve never heard anything like this before. Huey blends 80’s pop songs and classic rock overtop of hip-hop laced breakbeat switching it up every few minutes. Very cool!
