Why do we need a new goalie?
He's still fairly young...and he's still got a lot to learn.
I would give him another year or two...then he'll develop into the next Patrick Roy or Dominik. |

| Ya right clout will never be as good as those goalies. I think that since this year the team made money so they should look into the free agent market for a killer goalie. |

Hey discojoe, you do have some valid points but here are some bad things about Cloutier, he commits too early, gives huge rebounds and often gives away the puck behind the net. Pre knee injury, he was a pretty good goalie, but not anymore.
As for Tuzzi having all those penalties, the refs had it in for him since game 1 of the St. Louis series. Yes he did some stupid but over half the time he got penalties for things that anybody but him would get away with. |

That's the thing. Look at who's out on the market. There's a lot of goalies but they're not very good. I'd love to see Nabokov come here but San Jose just locked him down for a few years and I doubt they'd trade him.
Cloutier will get one more year since this team is a few years off from being SERIOUS contenders. They're forwards are going to have to back check better next year and the D will have to a be a lot tighter then in years past.
If the Canucks want to play the wide open, pinch the D in type hockey then they're not going to make it very far. Look at The Wild and Ducks. They stress defence more. Roloson for example is a soild goalie. His team's defence makes him look a lot better then he is. Sure his positioning is a lot better but his team hardly gives up scoring chances. The Canucks were able to get a lot of shots on him in the first period of games 5 and 6 but how many GOOD chances did we get? Not many. Minnesota was able to get a lot of good chances without taking many shots on Cloutier.
I personally think that Clouts never recovered from his late season knee injury. It takes him a while to re-gain his form both physically and mentally after injuries and he never did that in this year playoffs. His position was good for the most part all year but he got rattled the last 3 games vs The Wild. The biggest key for Cloutier this off season is going to be working on the mental side of goaltending. |

I wonder why? Maybe it's the fact that he's been mouthing the refs off all year and Crow didn't dicipline him at all. Crow should have took him a side after one of the games in the St Louis series and told him to stop mouthing off. Refs hate it when players jaw back at them after calls. The refs take abuse from him so it's no suprise he's in the box for borderline penalties.
Bert will have to be a lot less vocal after calls next year. |
