I know these aren't exactly the favourite tastes of many au.ta's but last night was something not to be missed. My last visit to billboards specifially for an International DJ wasn't a pleasent one being sadly disappointed by DuMonde, but alas my faith in paying money for touring superstars has been refuelled. Rocked up around 11:30ish to see a solid crowd waiting out the front to get in, thankfully a quick word us has heading towards the old entrace being used for pre-sold ticket holders.
Firstly LAB 4, well its hard to describe the passion, energy and freaky tunes they played. It was pure bliss(fast and hard in your face type) from start to finish. The whole place was alive with everyone hanging on each sound. Unforunately with such a huge pumped up crowd it was hard to find any space right up front, if you wanted to dance you were relegated to the sideline somewhere.
Next up was Yoji Biomehanika and he was everything i had hoped for, I had actually been looking forward to seeing him more than LAB 4. Thankfully(although bad in one aspect) the crowd slowly made its way from the front area leaving room for anyone to wanted to enjoy Yoji with some room. Straight up he was dark and hard just what we wanted to see, his opening track DJ Marc La Cruz - Future Prison was a great way to start. He also played some of the tracks he is more well know for such as ding a ling, never end, theme from banginglobe.
It was easily one of the best evenings i've had this year and its refreshing to see the International DJ's actually live upto their repuations and show the crowd why they are touring the globe. Apparently their was a new sound system in place which may be why it sounded so GREAT. For anyone who wanted to go but didn't you sure did miss out :( |

him or his set? |
ok, revised FIVE word synopsis of both acts:
LAB4
set: F U N K Y
act: O R G A N I S E D C H A O S
YOJI BOHEMFRAGDKS#)+KJYEKA
set: H O M O G E N I Z E D
act: U G L Y
homogenized as in nothin he played overhauled me, i had heard all the tracks played before by our locals and i tend to expect international acts to bring a certain 'international' flavour to their sets... but thats just me. :)
however, in saying this i still had a ball bustin moves to mr. yoji and i keenly anticipate his swift return to oz.
GO YOGI... i mean YOJI!!! |

Also popped in to HK on Friday & it was very packed. Lab 4 were outta control, but it kinda reminded me of a rock concert. HEAPS of energy though. Yoji was full on hard house (for the bit i saw), good for what he does but a bit over that sound myself.
my comment though is... how good a venue is Dex?? Whilst not looking completely different, the renovations are very good. The $300,000 sound system was installed the previous day 7 the sound was great but will only get better.
look for some 5Am'ers PLaying there on a saturday sOOn. |
