Magnetonium - Deep N Atmospheric UK Drum & Bass Mix (1992-1997)
Tsbeen a while since my last mix. I've been busy with school and work, but now that I finally finished organizing my music collection that I can concentrate on more mixes.
This one is a very special mix, of a very unique and now defunct style of drum & bass music - much different from today's degraded form of it. In early 1990s UK was the home for the best and most innovative drum & bass and hardcore/breakbeat music. I especially loved their deep drum & bass, popularized by the likes of LTJ Bukem and Kruder/Dorfmeister. Here's my tribute to that era ... Enjoy this fresh and utterly captivating sound, the true and original drum & bass sound.
This music was hard to mix, I am sure that track selection is great, but I am not that sure on mixing ... please leave feedback though, which transitions were good and bad. Thanks! -Phil / DJ Philton.

I really love that style of drum 'n bass as well, wish there were producers still making it. This is a definite play for me thanks. Also going to check out all you other mixes. Your 90's ambient and old school trance mixes look tasty.
I don't mess with drum n bass but I like it. it has that nice aquatic atmosphere.

the track selection was excellent. the mixing was not. there was a lot of points where you tried mixing in the next track by dropping a beat on an ambient ending, or doing the reverse and dropping an ambient intro on a beat. this didn't work to your advantage because the phrasing was usually off, as well as the beatmatching.
it's harsh, but you pick all these nice tracks for your sets and could have made an overall excellent set this time if you took the time to learn to beatmatch n phrase properly.

I understand and I don't take it personally. I tried mixing it several times ... I don't have the easy software but instead the Native Instruments turntable interface where I have to do it in one go.
Yeah it is a shame - I have so much of great music from so many electronic genres, but ... I DJ mostly top 40 and shit like that (bars, weddings, community events, stag n doe/jack n jills), I just never get the practice I need for the good music. I guess I am with Derrick May on this one, suck at mixing

i liked this, and despite a few mixing errors it held up quite nice and i'm willing to forgive some of the wreckage if still kept a flow which it did but i do have to say that that horrendous wreck in the middle of the mix really killed the flow. tunes was really good though, it was the kind of style of jungle i love. it's all drums, subby 808 bass hits, strings and the occasional vocal sample.

Sigh. Atmospheric jungle is still being made. You just don't bother looking for it.

New stuff sounds nothing like the original from the 1990s ... you know that
