No offence taken - my friends are usually our age (you're in your late twenties too, aren't you?), though I'm often at odds with them for these reasons.
I think the difference here could be cultural: I usually think it doesn't play too big a role in social relations but I reckon I think a lot more like you guys than like the people I'm surrounded by.

Seriously though, we're often afraid to make up words because they're not in the dictionary, but the dictionary is just a compilation of popular words, not a law that states what can('t) be said.
