competition for finalscratch

there is another company that is working on the same thing, but it seems to be cheaper:

http://www.serato.com/products/scratchlive/

I've read (in some German DJ mag) that the performance is even smoother and more precise than finalscratch. The price is something around 300$ for Two vinyl control records, software CD and a USB interface to connect your turntables to your computer.

will be released in late 2002. Looks promising, too.

just to keep you informed

awesome! and it runs under windows too..

that's pretty cool.. even though it isn't that stable, it would be good to muck around with without buying a whole new computer to put BeOS on.

check out the screenshot:

holy shit it even makes me think about getting it (instead of buying real tables) and a mixer ...

you still need tables and a mixer, unless you are going to get the studio version, which in my opinion won't be as good.

found even more competition:

http://www.alcatech.com/html/

under "products" look for "Digiscratch"

also they have something so you don't need tables anymore, called BPM Studio 4, it's like a dual cd player control that you hook to your PC and play MP3s instead of cds. pretty sweet looking!

just a quick question with final scratch can you use your own tables and mixer? so its only the record (maybe a special stylus?) and softare your paying for? if that case it could kind of be viable but also you wouldnt be able to see bars

yes, any table and mixer will do, no special stylus needed. Only the special vinyl. And you CAN see the bars on your laptop/PC which is where the music comes from. I have a link to a nice demo vid for FS somewhere, will add it later.

Sweet.. competition is good, it brings prices down. as it is, final scrath is way too expensive.

actually, you also need the interface box, just like with finalscratch or scratchlive. something needs to decode that timecoded signal..

i can't wait to get one of these and try it out.

here's a picture of the alcatech one:

BPM Studio has been around for a while, and if you're looking to just be doing mixing with your comp + external mixer, it's one of the best software renditions of cd decks that you can get.

Has anyone found out the latency on these systems? You'd think it would be pretty high since the signal has to go from the vinyl into your box, then the software has to interpret it and send the sound signal... and all of this over USB.
