All the cheap bashing on mainstream trance...

...is starting to bore and annoy me. You know, I don't like most of that stuff either and I think a lot of is unbearably cheesy, but I can only read so many sarcastic jokes about "unicorns" and "PLUR" before I roll my eyes and skip over the posts containing them. Sure, it may give you a little momentary thrill to insert a "unicorn" reference or whatever, and I've done it myself on occasion, but isn't this kind of cheap shot pointlessly negative? It isn't productive like actual criticism, which might cause a few of those "naive" little trancers to reconsider their listening choices a bit.

I'm starting to think that there's an epidemic going around, a certain mixture of cynicism and sarcasm, a superficial way that people have of putting on an air of "worldliness." At first it's kind of attractive and it seems like nobody's opinion can touch you when you have an arsenal of ridicule and "parody" built up and ready to fire, but after a while it starts to seem really empty, meaningless, tedious...at least to me.

Are unguarded earnestness and general positivity things of the past? Attributes that can be possessed only by naive youngsters?

If anyone who reads this has some ridicule and bubbling sarcastic energy stored up inside, why not just let it fade away this time around?

This site shouldn't even be called 'tranceaddict.com' anymore. It obviously isn't the site it once was back in 2001-2002 when it was a useful site for trance newbies to come here and dwelve more into the genre. Nowadays people that post here looking for trance just get laughed at. Most people on this site don't even care or listen to trance anyways.

Ha, ya this site should be called technoaddict.com, not that I have anything against techno or trance. You do realize though that this is an incredibly sarcastic and brutally honest forum. I think that it is actually more helpful and informational than a whole forum of people discussing an ASOT track list. Although I suggest that those tired of Armin trance should put some Patterson in their lives!

Of course. I've often participated in it myself. But I'm really just tired of negativity, "knowing" and "ironic" attitudes, and sarcasm I guess, and it seems like they're everywhere these days. And not just in this forum.

More than anything, it's an announcement that I'm trying to change myself I guess, as I have gotten really cynical and negative over the past six years or so and I'm just tired of how it's corroding my mood and my view of the world. But I thought some people might be interested in these thoughts.

Honestly, dunno where this idea that because you make fun of unicorn plur trance kiddies you're some negative sullen individual leading the life of a scrooge. haha.

In fact the worst offenders that come to mind are probably some of the most fun and good humored people I know.

ive noticed an evolution on this site; those who come here and express themselves honestly and perhaps prematurely are often ridiculed and dont seem to fit in. now if they choose to stick around regardless of the fact, they slowly start to adhere to the tastes of others, thus becoming more cynical and treating those with less popular taste in the same manner they were treated in.

the majority is picky and vocal about it. you can count me in to a degree. after all difference of opinion is crucial to the survival of a community, and much better than blind praise which we see on other sites but it would be nice to see a little more positivity kicking around. and although controversy makes the forums interesting it does, as you say, get tiring when you already know what the reply is gonna be after certain people post

when i read the posts from back when this place started up it seemed a lot more welcoming but i suppose this is a reflection of the times changing and trance scene diminishing in quality. we all came here because of it and now its a former shadow of itself, making it an easy target. ridiculing it is a way of letting go of the past and establishing a more "refined taste" and character for oneself

One could mistake my positivity about trance for being a young naive trancer, be it not that i know of the scene for about 10 years now and am over 30.
I'm still quite positive about trance itself and the possibilities it has.
I'm just disappointed both with DJs, producer and listeners mostly clinging to the fads and stuff killing creativity and with the negativity of people like they are here, who kill creativity by bitching and moaning about current trance and talking shit that trance was better in the beginning and that compared to that trance is shite now and never will be innovative and creative again and died a long time ago.

The first type of people are annoying in the sense that they flood the market with worthless shit and keep appreciating it, thus slowing creativeness and innovation.
The second type of people are more annoying because they they only offer negative criticism and contribute nothing positive to change the state the trance scene is in and offer no help to revive the genre and get the creative and innovative juices flowing.
Worse even, they define their own experiences of trance as normative and declare that trance is not trance anymore.

YES, the first group is a horde of brainless zombies, producing and consuming endless waves of crap.
Yet they contribute much more to the scene than the anti-establishment hipsters, who comprise the second group and are only breaking down the trance scene instead of impacting and changing it.
At least the current state of trance has some gems in the sea of shit.
If the second group would have their way, there would be no trance scene left except their own narrow view of trance, of which they would again tire of and bitch and moan again over, because that trance scene would be boring and dull again.
There's no way to satisfy these guys.

Anyway, come up with constructive solutions instead of bitching and moaning over a scene you find decaying, you anti-establishment hipsters.
