so with all this 6am bar/club hours talk,

how will our beloved after-hour scene be affected?

unless the regular clubs can replicate the raw-ness and vibe the afters have, the competition shouldn't affect the afters too much, with exception of losing the odd patron, the 'casual' that stumbles into an afters.

If Stereo ever gets its booze license then it solves one hurdle. Maybe a roped-off bottle service douche/douchette booth could be added too

Yeah, and call it Stereobar

From what I hear from my friends who go to Stereo often now, their biggest hurdle is the riff raff who go there now that Red Light closed.

It would be a great thing. The extra revenue from booze sales would lower ticket prices, allowing people to go more frequently = busier nights. I've craved beers at stereo pretty much every time I go.

Sadly, the last time was there was for Hawtin...its been awhile to say the least.

I've travelled a lot in the past 10 years. Especially in Europe. What I've noticed in Paris, Berlin, Munich, Barcelona, Zurich, etc is that people drink in the club passed 3…At one point they get tired and simply leave, usually around 5-6 am…most people do not take drugs. Some cities even allow all night drinking. The hole thing feels smooth and natural. The afterhours beat is deep and lots of clubs even let the day light in, it isn't as dark as our afterhours. The experience is really fun and different.

Now in Montreal on the other hand…. Since bars close at 3, if you want to go to afterhours, you need to commit to going out to another club. Big cover, no alcohol. It really is a different experience than clubbing. This is why people expect so much from DJs and why they do drugs to stay awake. Since people make the effort to transfer to another club at 4am, they usually will not leave before 8am or later.

On one hand it makes our scene truly unique but on the other hand it prevents it from growing and attracting more people.

Personally, I'm 100% for allowing any clubs to be open past 3 just like in Toronto and NYC. The current laws are retarded and outdated. Survival of the fittest will apply, clubs will die or survive. Scene will change and adapt to this new reality, I'm not worried though, MTL will always be unique and I'm positive that Stereo and Circus would actually benefit from this if of course they managed to get a liquor license.

good post

Circus is forgotten on here but they've done well recently with some good bookings like Zabiela, Marco Bailey, D Formation etc. would be good to see booze served at both Circus and Stereo with more lower covers like Master Kush mentioned as they already hava a leg up on clubs in many areas.

That's what I thought too, but I know a couple ppl who've been going to Stereo regularly for years who say this one issue is making them think about not going any more.

Toronto? Try 2AM, and only a handful of after-hours clubs. The best one closes at 5, so really we have one spot where you party past then.

The law's bullshit. Alcohol sales still stop at 3am. I can't imagine any bars/clubs on the streets designated that would ever do this. Paying staff for an extra 3 hours based on water bottle sales? LOL.. only solution is a big cover charge after 1am or something, which no one will pay for.

Mayor's idea is that leaving bars open later will allow people time to sober up. Here's a better idea, on friday and saturday nights have the metro open. One train every direction every half hour, and charge $5-6 per ticket instead of $3, from 1-5am.
