Possible way to solve problem:
- Bring in 1 big-name DJ
- Bring in 1 lesser known DJ
- Put in 1 killer local (and give them a slightly longer set)
Instead of
- Bring in 1 big-name DJ
- Pad lineup with 2-4 local DJs
The big-name gets the draw so the party is a 'success', the lesser known DJ gets exposed to Toronto, and hopefully eventually will be a big enough draw on their own to pull a crowd.
But 'less known' DJ is already a big name in Europe. How do you get that guy to take a paycut just to play in Toronto?

yeah. so unfortunately, the techno scene isn't developed enough in Toronto to warrant expensive bookings.
c'mon guv... please throw a good techno bash!

Mills and Dave Clarke were both here 4-5 years ago at KH and Boa...and the techno scene in Toronto is bigger now than it was back then.
There isn't a reason they couldn't be brought back. People would show up...i think especially for Mills.

If your interested in some of the more experimental side of minimal/ambient/noise/clicks and hisses - may be worth checking out the X Avant 2008 festival. Vauge Terrain has some details here

Here's a set buy Panorama Bar resident Nick Hoppner. I saw him play from noon-4pm there. Words cannot describe the pandemonium this guy caused with his set. This set is a very good depiction of how he played that afternoon. Deeper in the beginning, and serious business at the end. Enjoy.
He's at CiRCA on the 4th, if it wasn't for Nuite Blanche, I might of considered checking it out.

^^ That's an unexpected booking for Circa. Who's behind all these techno bookings there?

+1 I noticed that too.
Did they always book techno DJs since they've opened or is it just as of recent (ie past 5-6 months?).

Anxious for another Awakenings weekend! looks like Barbara will probably be playing when I get there... haven't seen her in awhile and I am hoping for a pleasant surprise.
