The washroom usually has a fan in the hotel. If there's only a vent for steam to exit through, then you'll want to turn the hot water on from the shower (jamaican hotbox, yup). Keeping the bathroom door closed keeps the smell pretty well-contained.
If you're really that worried about the smell seeping into the hall, block both door undersides with a towel, it ain't perfect, but it helps.
