it's nice but even when i lived with my folks it was never hard to smoke indoors and get away with it. put a boxfan on your window sill facing outwards and blow into it. then a splash of fabreeze when you're all done.
as mentioned, joints won't run if rolled evenly and tight. they do burn faster than blunts but are less wasteful and harsh--less smoke, no tobacco. i used to be a big blunt smoker (5+ a day) but nowadays a couple of joints a day do the job just fine.
