Random question ... has anyone been to Egypt? I will be vacationing there for three weeks one month from now and I would love to hear everyone's experiences. My gameplan is to spend a week on a liveaboard diving near the Sudanese border, spend a week in Cairo/Alexandria, and then spend a week in the Western Desert/Luxor.
I'm not one of those people who "relax" on vacations so if you have experiences with adventurous activities in that region I'm all ears.

Went there a really long time ago when I was an obnoxious brat teenager
Country is fairly dependant on tourism so it's safe and they'll look after you well, probably doesn't pay to advertise you're an american and if you're quietly spoken, dress down, will get along with the locals just fine. It's fairly safe, about the only problems you'd really run into are pickpockets in the big cities and getting lost there, avoid the marketplaces, they only sell stuff there you probably don't want to buy anyhow. I'm not adventurous (meaning 'getting shot at' in my book) or into diving and running around in deserts, so we stuck to regular touristy things with pyramids and beaches. Probably won't hurt to acclimatise and get yourself a GPS though and learn how to use it if you do.

I went to Egypt when I was about 11. I stayed in Cairo for a week then travelled to Luxor and went down the Nile all the way to Aswan then we moved on to the border. Going along the Nile is a great way to see the country. I was quite shocked as a kid as I thought it would be a real big dustbowl desert (well it is) but by the nile it's lush and green like an Oasis then it's turns into desert it's a really surreal sight.
There is a lot of history went to no ends of temples and the valley of Kings etc.
My Mums been to Egypt about ten times she's traveled all over North Africa. Alexandria is a beautiful city, I've never been there but my Mum liked it.

I'm just wondering, do americans have to pay taxes on income that comes from stocks? We don't have to pay it here at the moment, but the largest opposition party suggests installing that tax, and they claim most big economies do tax stock income, so I'm just wondering if that's the case in the USA?

So, if you're losing stock, if values drop, do you get like some kind of refund or something? Or is it a one-way flow?

Yes income tax is adjusted in the US to take into account share dividends. Basically money earned during a financial year, they also double-dip it a bit as it's also taxed from the corporations annual income as well.
I knew it, I just fucking knew it. My fear is now confirmed!!
