Honestly all I have to say is what did you really expect?

I mean shit most people don't know calculus, and calculus isn't very hard. Do you really expect them to think logically when it comes to race and religion? Of course not.

Actually, I expected something pretty similar to the outcome, only worse. I was just making sure that if I left TA it wouldn't be because of a false assumption. So now I've got validation and I won't have any regrets in case I decide to.

You kind of have a point there, but in real life I don't have to talk about politics with people, and then put up with their ignorance or deperate denial, combined with a bunch of racist undertones. I have to deal with enough racism/prejudice as it is, but when it's politically charged or rationalized in some sick way, that's really pisses me off. Not sure about this, but I think you might have noticed how I'm not in the best state of mind these days (actually, I haven't felt normal in a few years now, but lately it's sort of 'climaxed' or something, for lack of a better term ). So... I guess that explains some of it.

A sad thing the internet has taught me is that instruction and politeness, although both are known as education in Portuguese, are sadly unrelated.

The most hostile I've ever posted in was about Phonetics and Phonology, so I don't think it would be any different if people knew calculus

Well, education has alot to do with oppurtunity and not just intelligence. But, yeah, I understand your point there. That's simple mathematics anyone could easily do if they made the effort. But intelligence alone doesn't make a person good or ethical. The most evil bastards are some of the smartest f***ers out there. Hey Lira, I've got a question for you. You ever noticed how often I use the words "actually" and "well," especially at the beginning of a sentence ? Point out a few other one's in case you've noticed .

I don't really believe in that good and evil stuff. Intelligent people are indoctrinated because they want to be not because they don't know any better. They realize it is easier to be complacent.
