I agree with St. Andrew that the need for a mod is pretty much just the need for someone to merge threads on the same topic. However, I wouldn't object to us having a dedicated mod here (occrider was elected by the residents some time ago - I still think he would be a good mod). Sometimes the need for a mod does arise, and then it's to late to start thinking about getting one.

Yea netflix is only US based, but there's talk of expanding into Europe. It's horribly addictive because you get access to whole slew of excellent films that you wouldn't know where to find in a blockbuster if they're even there.
A couple of years ago the idea of movies by mail was tested out in Denmark, and it didn't go down too well. The problem is (I guess) that postage is way too expensive here: The introductory offer in Denmark was more than three times the standard fee I payed for my Blockbuster subscription when I was in the US. I don't see how Netflix would get past that hurdle.

Yup, which is exactly why I posted about it.

blockbuster.com
Blockbuster: $17.99/month - 3 DVDs at a time
Digitarian: 189 dKr (=$31)/month - 2 DVDs at a time
Get my point?

True, although 1 movie at a time is 99kr, compared to netflix's $9.99 (plus taxes whatever they might be). So not a *huge* difference there really, although it still sucks. But is the postage really that much more expensive here? Or is it because it is a much smaller clientele here? Or perhaps because that everything is generally more expensive here?

39 cents (US) vs. 73 cents (DK). I *guess* that the difference is somewhat larger, though, as you cannot negotiate deals on mass mailings with the Danish postal service, but suspect that this is not the case for the USPS?
Anyway, I'm sure that you're right, in that the small market is also to blame for the difference in price.

I like that we don't have a real mod. Albeit I can't post much online anymore because of my busy life, but I've always liked that we were basically free to do as we pleased unlike any other section of TA. I agree that sometimes it sucks when we actually DO need a mod and we don't have one, but at the same time you have to take the downfalls with the rise. There are positives and negatives to every situation. In this case, I think the positives outwieght the negatives in not having a mod.

Morning. The bottom line in the Political section of TA is u get Neo when hes passing by or me when someone links me to something.
Both me and Neo have super mods access which amung other things mean we have mods in all forums on ta, but im not officially down to mod this forum and i give most my attention to the forums i am down to mod.
The only reason you dont have a real dedicated mod is because out of all the main forum mods, only me and Neo are still at it, and only Neo's down to mod the "other" forums (gaming, sports, this etc) so if the mod situation on ta was sorted out with all the dead wood removed and a new wave of mods input all over the shop, then it might be different, but it sounds like u guys like having a lack of mods here. I see ur point with that, but i personally think most of TA should atleast be viewed by a mod, but then only 'modded' if things needed it. If all hell broke loose in here chances are you'd have to PM me or Neo.
Dunno what i was really getting at with that post, so make of it what u will..

I think PDDers had a good new years or something. Everyone's being unusually nice lately. Not that I'm complaining about it.

Eh the only time we really needed a mod was when the Israel/Palestine issue was blowing up every other day. Things have calmed down considerably since. I don't even know what a dedicated mod would do nowadays, probably sit around twiddling his/her thumbs all day? Draft a constitution and a biill of rights for the forum perhaps? The only useful thing a mod could do is to get back at Wicked Neo for his bad habit of garbage dumping the COR's shit threads in here because they're remotely political (I know he secretly enjoys doing that).
