Well, not all religious ppl live by the book.

How are they religious if they don't follow the teachings of their religion?

Someone who live by the book imo is someone who take every word of the bible/koran/torah/whatever literally. |
Well, if you're really simple minded and/or have trouble analyzing/interpreting/thinking, then I guess you'll take every word literally.

For example there are many religous ppl that still drink and so, even tho their books condemn such behaivor. |
Then they're not exactly religious. Which is why I would NOT call myself religious, eventhough I have faith, enough that it has had a significant impact on me as a person and my values. (btw, my drug of choice is pot, although I don't smoke anywhere near as much as aI used to)
Unless you have a different definition of religious.
@ Occrider, St_Andrew, GeorgeSmiley & Tranceaholic: I don't know how exactly to phrase this question without sounding kinda silly, but, do you guys loose all respect for someone when you find out that they have a religion (or atleast respect them less)? Do you consider them to be intellectually handicaped (atleast relatively speaking)? The reason why I'm asking I guess is cuz I've noticed that most people on this forum have never said anything positive about religion or religious people and don't seem to have much respect for eigther. I can totally understand how alot of so called "religious" people can be quite irritating, especially when they try to use their beliefs as a basis of argument when debating/discussing something with someone who obviously doesn't share their beliefs, or when they try to impose their beliefs on others (and other things along those lines). I find that irritating as hell too. Don't get the wrong impression though, I'm just curious. You guys can be completely honest in your responses, I won't be offended.
EDIT: If you guys prefer to PM me your responses instead, feel free to do so.
