well you can apply all you want, but you have to call in and talk to the managers about your app and requesting an interview etc if you hope to land a job. just dont physically go in and talk to them. its considered rude

I always call and ask for the managers schedule and then ask for him personally. Ive never been turned down for a job (had about 6 now) and always hired on the spot.

I mean this objectively : You have seemed rather immature and irresponsible over the forums, perhaps an image change is in order. I cant imagine not getting a job. Its so easy. You stand straight, have a sharp hair cut, be clean shaveen, proper hygiene, clip those nails, and dont say "uh". You should know who you are and why youre there before you go.

Everyone i see not getting jobs are gen X kids who dont think they have to play by the gettin hired rules. UNfortunately you do have to play by them to get hired. Thats the game, those are the rules.

Even when applying to a grocery store you should go in slacks, button up, and a tie. Show that you actually respect the persons position (the man hiring you) and the job your are applying for.

Like I said, Id really have to fuck up big to not get hired.

if you wait, they'll never call...

i know this first hand. i dont bother calling, so every job i've applied for, no responce. its ok though. im still in HS and im not in desperate need of cash. i make my money doing random stuff, and my friend and i have our own snow removal business, while another friend and i have a web design busines, both moderately successful.

your good at this, though, half the apps i did were online, so there really wasnt a manager to call. the retail in mall always told me, we're looking for people with experience in retail. imma use that advice though.

what kinds of places have u worked at?

speaking of getting my job, I offically was offered a teaching position today. The weird thing is that they came looking for me, not the other way around. It's too good to turn down, but it means moving out of state. Long story which i'm not going to get into. Ever since i first started working I NEVER got turned down. here are some tips:

1. Dress professinal to interviews. Don't care if it's Burger King and shit, dress nice. The higher the pay, the better you should look. Burger king does not require a suit, but dress nice and maybe wear a time.

2. during the interview smile alot and explain your answers. EVERYTHING is about precetption. You look and act like a shitbag well, that's what you are. Smiling does something important...It makes you stand out. Nobody remembers the boring person, but they remember the person who is happy.

3. Depending on your chances of getting the job.... IF you know alot of people are applying for a good pay positstion, take the time to actually type on the application. I did this one time where i know the chances were slim of me getting it. 1 posistion and 70 people were applying. I got the job. why? because they remembered me.

If your waiting for them to call you, thats never going to happen unless you have an outstanding resume. You gotta keep calling them be on their ass and let them know you actually want the job.

first job i started my own company called HydroTool and pressure washed and did landscaping. Then I took 6 months of MCSE cert and became netadmin for the fastest growing consulting firm in west coast history. Then I was going to school and worked 3 6 month stints at 2 different best buys, and a rite-aid (where i was offered manager position). I also worked the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and was offered a full time position because out of 18 people in teh dpmt and 10 of those being fulltimers, i had the #2 highest sales and the #2 highest multiple sales %. That means people just didnt buy one thing, i talked them into other things.

managers dont want to help you. They want the store to do well. So you gotta go in there saying how much you like the culture and want to add some energy to the local scene.

and dont take that exp req BS. No one needs RETAIL exp. Thats XP in getting shitheaded asssholes talking to you. Welcome to life.

Say everyone needs a good worker. Im fast learning and i only need to be told things 1 times. Im here to work hard and give this store a btter rep. Lets do this.

I dunno you just gotta be smart about it and solve their problem for them. Who are they looking for right now? Become that person.

edit: also awesome rule here :::: Always dress for you next position. If you want to be respected, dress where you WANT to be, not where you are. Every time a new person gets hired the first question they ask me is if im a manager. I use that.

really orbax knows what he's talking about. I personally have no teaching experince, actually i was the one the teacher loved but hated BUTTTTTTTTT i do have other experinces that can kinda/sorta translate. Now my exact case is unique, but same concept applies. Everything can translate.

OHHHH and i forgot one more rule:

4. MAKE AN AWESOME RESUME. You do a shit job, you get a shit job. It took me over 3 weeks to prefect it. As a matter of fact i had my first draft professinally done. cost me $130 to do. Alot of people called me stupid for doing that...you know what??? i would do it again.
