Agreed. Go make some fresh new tunes instead for crying out loud

I can see why some people do make remakes - its a cash cow, and many smaller labels who are struggling for money could find that by re-releasing a classic with a few new mixes they can get a lot of money (eg Lost Language re-releasing Cafe del Mar 98 or Solar Stone - 7 Cities with a couple of new remixes).
Also, there are some tracks that were amazing at the time but sound dated now due to the differences in production style, technology etc.
A remake can sometimes "freshen up" an old tune - I for one would love to see a remake of Liquid Child - Diving Faces done in current production styles.

I havent heard all these remakes so I cant comment on specifics but bear in mind they are not all bad. And at least the original artists will get some credit, something they wouldnt do if someone simply made a bootleg

I agree that producers should make new tunes instead of making unnecessary remakes of tunes that are good enough as they are. Remaking old material isn't very original either...

remaking an old song is not bad every now and then, but when you have an excess of remixes of one song, it's a bit too much. 1 or 2 is enough.

I think 2002 was a much worse (or better, depending on your view) year for remakes. It had Binary Finary, Cafe del Mar, Above the Sky, Seven Cities, Out of the Blue, Flaming June, and a slew of other ones that I can't remember.
I think the difference with 2002 was that most of the remakes were quality. Most of the remakes out this year are cheesy shit...

Ooops, sorry, that's just a repressing of the Iberia and Rapid Eye Remixes.

But that's okay, I found two more to replace it.

Exactly. It was frustrating when remakes were being done in 2002, but at least most of them were good. These 2004 remakes are not only greater in quantity, but lower in quality.

At this rate, trance will reach a critical mass of remakes of remakes in 2009 and implode into nothingness.
