Review: Dec 24, 2003 Christmas Bash @ Viva!
WOW!
What a night it was. First of all, I gotta say that this was the best experience I had at a nightclub up-to-date. The two most prolific DJs of the night, Walter Rosatti and Mark Oliver had AWESOME sets and fantastic, flawless mixing all night long! The crowd was AT LEAST 1500 people (IT WAS PACKED LIKE I'VE NEVER SEEN VIVA BEFORE!). Previous time I was at Viva, Walter had a fine set with some minor problems (not his fault) , but this time he dropped all-around awesome tunes with flawless mixing, and I danced my arse off to his entire set! He had this style of techno similar to the style Marco V spins ... I loved it! Both of the DJs were awesome, and it was hard to decide who I'd give the vote as the DJ of the night ... Mark Oliver had fantastic trance set with many lovely tunes, pretty much a trance review for the year 2003, I'd say! Thanks a lot, DJs, u2 were awesome! As for the Dutch DJ, I didn't really notice him, he came on and then left so fast ...
Ikitia - OK, my name WAS NOT on the guestlist (WHEW, the price was $25 anyway)!!! None of the regular TAs showed up (what a shame, it was an amazing night!!!!!!). I want to thank the two Asian TAs (please post messages, guys!) for spotting me and introducing yourselves - it was lots of fun dancing and chatting with you two all night long! SHAME ON THE REST OF YOU, WHAT A NIGHT IT WAS ... WOW! There was all kinds of stuff played ... first Walter spun some hard techno, then he played some classics, then added a couple of uplifting tracks ... Mark started off a bit hard, but by the last hour he was pouring on lots of lush uplifting vocal tracks ... and the last track of the night was so ... so ... so ... BEAUTIFUL ... "Goodbye" (can someone please tell me the full ID for that tune!!!)
Here's some on the notable tunes that were played that night ... There are too dam many to mention, so I'll quickly jot down the ones I can remember at the moment:
New anthems: Rock Your Body (played TWICE*), The 7th Dimension, Beautiful (played TWICE*),
There were a lot of classics spun by both DJs (WOW), of course, many of these were remixed, but here are some ...
Binary Finary - 1998
Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel (played TWICE*)
Ferry Corsten - Punk (some new remix!!)
Sasha - Xpander
Other notables:
Solid Globe - North Pole
Benny B. - Satisfaction (two different remixes of this track were played, and the original too! too much! )
DJ Tiesto - Traffic
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (new remix, cant recall the name of it at the moment = IS THERE A DJ out there who doesnt spin this track in his sets?? MUHAHAHA ...)
There were a lot of new trance tracks played, primarily of uplifting nature, and many I heard, just dont remember the names ...
* - thats funny, somehow it coincided for both Walter and Mark to spin these tracks, and few others ...
Overall, I'd rate the night 85/100, with the deductions coming primarily from LOTS OF PEOPLE SMOKING - IT WAS HARD TO BREATHE AT TIMES, SOME PEOPLE WERE ON WEED AND SMELLED LIKE SH-T, and the place got a bit too crowded at one point. Ventilation wasn't working too well that night either ,... UGH
Oh, and one more thing ... I had a bad week, but this Christmas party will be an awesome memory forever, and since today's my 20th birthday (TODAY!!) it was an awesome "present"!
