Being famous in Australia isn't much of an achievement, considering the population size being so small so most entertainers and the like run off overseas for better money.
There is something of a split in the country of the 'Cultural Cringe' vs 'Bogan Culture'
The cultural cringe are mostly city people who look down on some of the aspects of Australian contemporary culture (Rugby, Holden/Ford rivalry, some clothing, music etc) as being nothing more than a low-brow, international embarrassment. Bogan Culture thinks the new outlook of adopting other countries cultural fads, food, music and sports are essentially a bunch of poofters.
What is funny though is that it isn't actually an economic class or racial based discrimination. You will get the broke-ass cultural cringe university students living the life on $15,000 a year and the common as dirt, cashed up bogan in a 3 million dollar house.
Its mostly a case of "fitting in", they don't actually care about how much you make, what you do, where you come from or how famous you are.
