Hooo man! I am so proud of myself! Whenever something happens with the residents here that is beyond our scope of care, we have to send them to the hospital...but I hate calling paramedics because some of them can be dicks and they treat us like we're wasting their time. But I ALWAYS err on the side of caution, because how the fuck do you explain to families when some shit goes wrong that you knew something was wrong but did nothing?
Anyway, so I sent a lady off tonight figuring she had a vasovagal response from having a huge fuckin bowel movement. Which, in itself is not life threatening - but she has a recent history of stroke, so I wanted to be sure if her symptoms were just a vagal response or not.
I just got a call from the hospital and sure enough, they're admitting her because her sodium levels are super low. Low sodium levels can lead to episodes of syncope.
HAH!
