The mould patterns are so art-neuveau, while the busted-ass wallpaper clearly demonstrates... well... the matrix, in the first pic!

Was in there a few days ago... fucking disaster. Pipe burst in one room at the end of the house and sprayed for 2 weeks. When the owners came home from vacation, they found their entire house like this.

It was an older couple... they were away on vacation and a pipe burst, spraying inside a wall cavity. It went on for like 2 weeks. They had no AC running to demunidify, and inside of the place turned into a damn tropical environment. The relative humidity inside coupled with the temperature was almost at dew point, meaning it was about to start raining inside on its own.... lol. The costs to remediate and restore it are more than the value of the house. So, they basically have to tear it down and build again, or sell the property.
Edit: thanks Mongoose

Ya, I accidentally skipped reading the... important part.
I got all excited that the first pic looked like the matrix thingy on the computer screen, and just started scrolling

Did they at least have insurance to cover this or does everything go out of their own pocket?
Getting your house destroyed sucks at the best of times, but when youre old, and in this point in time when its probably worth shit anyway...double ouch.

Man that is rough. Perfect example of why insurance is important, especially if you're going away.
Why didn't they have anyone to check on the house? We always give the neighbours and/or some good friends a key to collect the mail and just do a quick walk through the house every couple of days.

Well, they have State Farm insurance, which is an awful company to work with on water damage issues. They're trying to tell the homeowners that they will only pay for the damages to the room that was directly affected by the water. I'm trying to help the owners by explaining to the insurance adjuster that even though the water was localized to one room, the mold growth is contiguous throughout the house and is a direct result of that pipe because it created that humid condition throughout. Humidity is moisture too, and the adjuster is too dumb to understand that.
