Had one ordered and Alesis told me that the original ship date had been pushed back indefinitely. No reasons why or any ETA. SO I thought about it and picked up a Virus instead. Based on my needs and working style, he Virus is a better choice for me at this stage.

I wonder if they're stopping production? I doubt it, they do a run when enough orders come in, maybe it will just take a very long time. You should have just gotten one on ebay ... they're always one in great condition there. I just hope the virus is worth it for you.

I have no information that they are stopping production, but the guy at Alesis I talked to was pretty matter of fact about it. Kind of rude actually, as if they were doing ME a favor. Very put off, to say the least.

I tend to avoid eBay when possible. I don't really like buying things used if I can get them new. Too risky and been burned too many times.

The Virus is great. I'm really happy I got it already. The combination of analog bass and FX from the LP combined with the Virus has already saved one track for me. I've been very impressed with the sound, really. It's got a big sound right out of the box. It fits perfectly into a mix when used properly, and its really been hassle free so far. I can work with it just like a Software Instrument and that is a huge plus.

I explained it to someone like this: The Andy is like the Ferrari of synths, its fantastic and one-of-a-kind, but rare, expensive and hard to get. You only want to take it out when the weather is nice and you can park it at the back of the lot. The Virus is more like a Mercedes, it is not quite a Ferrari, but its nice enough and I can drive it to work every day.

I may look into one again sometime in the future, but I want to be careful about getting too much outboard hardware at one time I'm a big believer in keeping it simple. Too many options can become a distraction rather than an advantage.

I think i'd be more in to the virus if I haven't already heard it 10 thousand times. Whenver I play with that synth, I always come across something cheesy and lame that I've heard way too many times to ever want to use. I don't get that at all with my other instruments.

I think I'd also like the TI more if the hardware interface wasn't practically useless -- especially compared to the ease of using the software.

I've actually found a lot of usage out the sounds. The Charlie May soundbank in particular (what up with those patch names?), showcases some really crazy sounds that I have not heard anywhere else. Real modern Sasha/John Digweed/Bedrock type sounds in that techno/progressive vein. This fits in perfect with the type of sound I have been making lately. Simplified, stripped down tech house and techno with a splash of progressive. Its a very elegant, mature sound that is far removed from the sugar-coated trance I used to make.

Its definitely to each his own. I can see how the hardware interface can be rendered useless for some, but I like having a dedicated knob for each major function. Its difficult to turn two knobs at once with a Software Instrument.

For me, it's turning out to be the best synth purchase I have ever made, simply because of its versatility, ease of use and extensive library of sounds. The wavetables are really cool when paired with the extensive mod matrix. Throw in the arp and you can get some really cool textures.

I dont think either of us a trying to convince you to do so.

You have several pieces in your rig that I consider highly desirable. Frankly, I'd be happy with the SE unit and the A6. I've been thinking that the next upgrade is going to be either a SE-1X or a Voyager.

Its going to be a while though, as I think I have exhausted my wife capital with this last purchase. At least i didn't have to sleep on the couch!

It is a Studio RTA Producer Station

I never installed the top portion because I don't like to look up at my monitors.
