See, Im an accountant and its TAX TIME... the busiest 2 months (march and MOST ESPECIALY April) of the year... the 2 months when you simply cant bitch about the work load and time you must put in - the rest of the year, you can have any freakin time you want off... usuaully even on a days notice.
This is the time is so busy. Even though its Good Friday, right now we're on 6 day work weeks till the end of April. Even though its Good Friday (and we'll be paid for it), we're still expected to put in atleast 40 hours outside of that holiday pay.
Due to this holidays time, no one in the office will take Friday off, except 2 religious ppl we have here, and even they will only take the morning off for church. Most will make sure they're 40 are in and maybe take the saturday off as their 'holiday' day (since right now we're all werking saturdays too)
Many will be in on saturday of course as well.
Technically I *could* see if the partners will not object strongly to me taking the statutory holday and working all day saturday instead... and they'll prolly express how they really will want me working that day (they wont force me), but if thats the case, it reflects poorly on me at work if i take that day off when they've made it clear theyd wish id work and that everyone else in the office will be working that day except me.
Itll just look really bad on my part... office politics, sometimes you gotta recognize the game... sad, but true.
I still may decide its worth it to go... but right now, i just dont know. This is my career, gotta treat that seriously... and as well, this is the only time of the year you are truly needed to work like a fiend... its just a reality if you're an accountant unfortunately.
