Today MUTEK is very pleased to reveal another wave of artists that will also be joining the line-up in Montreal this May, alongside the 28 other acts already revealed:

DEADBEAT & PAUL ST HILAIRE (CA/DE)
MALA of DIGITAL MYSTIKZ (UK)
MARTIN TÉTREAULT & MICHEL LANGEVIN of VOIVOD (CA)
MATT THIBIDEAU (CA)
NSI. (DE)
RICARDO VILLALOBOS & ZIP (CL/DE) – 7-hour marathon DJ set!
ROBERT HENKE & CHRISTOPHER BAUDER present ATOM (DE)
SND (UK)
STEPHEN BEAUPRÉ (CA)
THE MOLE (CA)
TURZI (FR)

We are especially proud to be bringing ROBERT HENKE & CHRISTOPHER BAUDER’s monumental ATOM installation to Montreal for three showings, a North American exclusive. This project is among the most ambitious undertakings of Henke’s long and distinguished career, in which he has already seen many high points as MONOLAKE and as one of the inventors of Ableton Live. ATOM features a series of compositions played on a matrix of 64 illuminated helium balloons that will be presented at the prestigious Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts.

These acts join an anniversary program already heavily studded with some of the most critically acclaimed and influential artists in electronic music and digital creativity from the last two decades. More than a festival, MUTEK is also an argument for where digital music has been and where it’s headed. This year, we’re working strenuously to build the most ambitious and eclectic edition of the festival ever, all of which should bolster its appeal to connoisseurs, as well as cultural aficionados of any stripe. There are still many more surprises to come, which will be revealed in full detail come April 15th.

A SNEAK PREVIEW OF THE SHAPE OF MUTEK’S FIVE DAYS

With so many acts performing over five days and the majority of our audience coming from out of town, we also wanted to give people as much advance notice on who will be performing when, in order to help in the planning of trips. Below are some broad strokes as to who will be performing on which day.

DAY 1 – Wednesday, May 27th

Wolfgang Voigt’s presentation of his Gas project will open the festival with a very special Canadian premiere at Montreal’s historic Monument-National Theatre. Afterward, Herman Kolgen (one half of the multimedia duo Skoltz_Kolgen) will debut the world premiere of his new piece “Inject”.

Later that night, Berlin travels to MUTEK for our first-ever CLUB TRANSMEDIALE showcase, featuring the psychotronic frequencies of France’s Zombie Zombie and Turzi.

DAY 2 – Thursday, May 28th

Jaki Leibezeit and Burnt Friedman perform an exclusive North American show in the early evening, followed by an equally eclectic pairing of Quebec’s Martin Tétreault and Voivod drummer Michel Langevin.

Later that night brings dubstep-driven showcases by Appleblim, Mala (Digital Mystikz), Moderat (Modeselektor + Apparat), as well as a collaboration between Deadbeat and Paul St Hilaire (formerly known as Tikiman).

DAY 3 – Friday, May 29th

Berlin’s NSI. performs in the early evening on the same bill as Sheffield’s SND and a MUTEK_10 special commission, the world premiere of “Power” by Montreal’s Artificiel.

Robert Henke and Christopher Bauder present the first of three ATOM performances.

Later that night MUTEK explores the international reach of digital funkiness with performances by Mexico’s Bostich and Fussible of Nortec Collective, Berlin’s Jahcoozi, Montreal’s Ghislain Poirier, Chilean Original Hamster performing with Brazil’s Nego Moçambique, and a very special Cynosure imprint showcase featuring label head Mike Shannon alongside Adam Marshall, Ernesto Ferreyra and Matt Thibideau.

DAY 4 – Saturday, May 30th

We begin with an eclectic afternoon spanning from the hypnotic dub-techno of Thomas Fehlmann to the uplifting tech-disco of The Mole, with Brendon Moeller and Trus’me performing along the way.

Robert Henke and Christopher Bauder will present two more installments of ATOM.

In the early evening, Alva Noto, Ryoji Ikeda, AtomTM, and Byetone comprise a very special Raster-Noton showcase

Later that night, MUTEK and RESIDENT ADVISOR join forces to present Carl Craig, dOP, tobias., and Mathew Jonson vs Dandy Jack.

DAY 5 – Sunday, May 31st

The final day starts off in the park with a very rare North American appearance by Ricardo Villalobos, who will be tagteaming on the decks for a marathon 7-hour DJ set with none other than Perlon founder and manager Zip.

As if this weren’t enough, Sunday night goes back inside for a closing event that is being billed as “Canada night”, featuring the highly anticipated return of Akufen, in his first live showcase of completely new material since 2004, followed by the impossibly talented live improvisation of Modern Deep Left Quartet. Stephen Beaupré will be on hand as well, and given the sheer number of other Canadians already in town, we can only add that a few surprise appearances may pop up through the night.

Of course, there are still more names to come. Stay tuned for updates on our website (www.mutek.org) as we approach April 15th. On that day, when we present a full panoramic view of the festival, we will also be launching a special MUTEK_10-dedicated website.

FROM MOVEMENT TO MUTEK – SPECIAL TRAVEL DEAL

As many of you know, the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (May 23-25) and MUTEK (May 27-31) are separated by only two days this year. Now, for some this may raise the prospect of having to choose between the two, but with this year’s respective programs being so different in content and spirit, we’ve arranged a special travel deal so that you don’t have to choose!

Those of you who are considering a full nine days of cross-border festivities now have the option of traveling from Windsor (a single bridge away from Detroit) to Montreal courtesy of our travel partners VIA Rail, who have offered to provide MUTEK attendees a special 50% discount on travel in the Windsor-Quebec City corridor from May 25th to June 1st.

That means a one-way trip from Windsor to Montreal will cost you as little as $99 CDN (approx. $80 US) before taxes!

To sign up, all you have to do is follow the instructions at this link.
