We make fun of people here for over-reaching, though. srussell got blasted because he kept bringing up his credentials and job like anyone here is concerned with that. Sure, it was something we eventually made fun of, but not because he was an IT guy - do you know how many fucking IT guys are on TA? - but because he, like you said, vivid, tried to puff up his chest and threaten people with his technical prowess. He tried to make fun of what jenny does for a living, he tried to rub his dual degrees in everyone's faces as though he's the only educated person on TA, etc.
I don't think nefardec's doing anything like that. She's defending herself, sure, but most anyone would when their earnest identity is in question. Unless they're a fucking lout, like Amber.
I do have a measure of respect for your view, too, Vivid - holding everyone to equal standards, not accepting bullshit when it flows out of some of the people around here. That's fine. I just think you're wrong in your assessment of Avana, because those standards you suppose to be your own, in this case, are not yours - they are the majority of society's; some built-in, some conditioned, all appealing to an almost arbitrary sense of reproductive entitlement that we are no more prone to than the pangs of revenge and violence that guide the hands of hateful criminals and base minds, alike. I'm trying to say that our species is past that, because we are capable of recognizing it. We can pull the curtain off the wizard's control room, so to speak, and recognize that we are programmed to react first, before we accept, and it is in our power to change this just as it is in our power to change the wizard's rod to the wizard's curtains. Uh, so to speak.
I'm just saying we should applaud Avana, just as we should applaud IGK when he finally joins NAMBLA. Take charge of your life, people!
