Hahaha, sweet book! Also I dig your place Nou. It has character..I love older buildings. That place looks like it was built at least 50-60 years ago? Also small spaces ftw. My first (and only) apartment was only 600 square feet, and it was awesome.
But yeah, get some art/photos for the walls and some plants. New window treatments wouldn't hurt either. |
I think the building was built in 1909. 1900-1920 is when most of the apartments on Capitol Hill were built. This place though had its facade replaced probably in the late 50s/60s though (I don't really like it). Its original facade was wood siding (which is pretty rare amongst a lot of the apartments here which are almost all brick) according to a picture in the hallway.
Ground floor unit, which isn't too bad, its still raised up a good 6 feet off the street level. I think total square footage here is 425-450. It is tiny haha, but the kitchen is big and I really don't need that much room. The management company only owns two properties and it appears to be family owned and I think the son is taking over managing both properties from another manager. He is nice and responsive and lives at the other property which is just a couple blocks away. The family also has property out near our beach cabin that they stay at during the summer, so thats cool.
Not sure what I want to do with the windows. The major drawback is the heat is electric, baseboards, so any window dressing is going to have to work with my paranoia of baseboards (I hate them, I turned the breaker off for them at our cabin in the bedrooms and just use a water space heater haha). The whole place though heats on the one in the bedroom and the one in the kitchen, so really its not a big deal, the one in the living room is off and covered by where my desk will be anyways.
*edit*
Yea the book is funny, it was a gift from Citric a couple Christmases ago after she got sick of me sounding like an old jewish man complaining about how I might be sick/dying haha. Course the first 20 pages of what is killing me today are obviously filled with "Citric Acid".
Damn orange juice.
