Depends what you want to do, and your level of skill:
It'd be cool to start on logic if you want to do some serious production, as it really is up the top of the game..
because of this it's good to start on but it's seriously difficult to get a grip on if you have no idea what you're doing...
I would recomend starting in ableton if you don't know much atm, then moving to logic when you get a bit of experience with sequencing and synthesis... it's hard to get a clean sound out of ableton, but it's interface is extremely simple, and really intuitive, so it's great to learn on... Most professionals wouldn't recomend staying in it, cause it really colours sound in an irritating way, and logic would be great once you have an idea of what you're doing, but if you're really beginning jump into ableton: Youtube is your friend for tutorials etc too (for any sequencer )
edit: Fuck i always go on too long...
point is: If you feel confident use logic straight away, it's really the best you can get for ITB production... it can be fucking painful to get to grips with though, so it might be worth getting the fundamentals of production down in ableton if you're not super-confident

Any recommendations for a midi keyboard? |
as bas said, look for second hand ones... They're all really the same: If you can see yourself mapping assloads of midi functions onto your keyboard and having a lot of stuff at your fingertips on knobs and sliders look into the novations, or the new akai mpk range of keyboards... if you just want a keyboard, or something for slapping down some ideas occasionally go a cheap m-audio
