I just watched Anomalisa, a Kickstarter funded stop motion flick based on a play and also written and directed by Charlie Kaufman. What an impact. Whoa.

Had to balance it out with Dudebro Party Massacre III.

Yeah I had to turn it off more than once because I was so mad at different characters.

Came across this coincidentally after watching 'Love' by Gaspar Noé yesterday and browsing though IMDB. Haven't seen it yet, but if you're into Noé's movies, Love is definitely worth a watch. His other movies are better, but this one's pretty good, too. Lots of pornography - probably the most hardcore you'd see in a (non-porn) movie. Good story, as usual, showing how the actions we take in life have an indelible impact.

Enraging, infuriating, disgusting, etc., etc., are not strong enough words to describe how this series will make you feel. The whole thing is like watching that rape scene in The Accused, starring Jodie Foster.

It is 10 hours long (10 1-hr series). 5 of those are trial. the other 5 are more backstory. but all are equally saddening and infuriating.

If you don't want to watch it, but want to know what happens, check out information regarding Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey (the documentary is about them....Steven moreso, but both tragic).

Out of boredom I also watched Run All Night, which I expected to be much worse than what it was. The guy from the new Robocop looks like he might have a bright future ahead of him. Liam was actually good versus Harris. Ed is an underrated actor at least as an antagonist. The story is decent and kept me interested most of the movie.

I really enjoyed this flick too. I like Liam Neeson but I been rather bored and underwhelmed by the bulk of his latest films. Didn't like any of the Taken movies, Battleship was a joke and found A Walk Among the Tombstones to be a complete waste of time.

But I really felt his character in Run All Night. It might be a little cliche to some to see the actions of a murdering scumbag trying to repent for his past misdeeds, but Liam does it so well. That sad forlorn look he has, the way he draws out his words and phrases like an old man ready for his long sleep, that guilt he carries mixed with some of the crude jokes he makes really got me absorbed into this movie. I hope he makes more like this in the future.

The Hateful Eight was pretty entertaining, a little long maybe, but definitely a Tarantino film. Goggins, Russell, Jackson and Leigh all do a good job and are well casted.

I watched it last night, long sit but worth it. Russell surprised me most.

Watched Sicario this week. Pretty good crime drama/thriller. It's refreshing to have a slow-burn type thriller rather than a 2 hour SWAT kicking ass fest that many crime movies portray. I thought Blunt and Del Toro did great in their respective roles. Cinematography was great, too, with the Blu-ray encode really showing off the stark desert landscapes at times.

Next up: The Martian...finally!

Watched "The Martian" last night, finally. I enjoyed it, though I expecting going in to have more scenes that felt "hopeless". Though the protagonist was indeed challenged both physically and mentally, I never really had any overwhelming sense of dread or "oh shiat, he's not gonna make it!" if that makes sense. Still, good times. The backdrop location(s) they shot in Jordan to simulate Mars are fabulous in hi-def.
