Well we're not really selling to the customer, which is the patient. We're basically just consulting with the doctor/specialist and trying to convince them our product is better than the others. Sometimes it is better for the general patient, at other times it's only better for a certain portion of patients. A good rep can identify a doctors needs and fill that gap. A bad one just tries to cram the drugs down their throat.
Rejection isn't all that bad because you're still seeing the same people over and over again, so you build up a relationship where a no is in a more friendly manner, rather than someone slamming their front door in your face and you never seeing them again.
I'm not a fan of sales but the type I do is bearable and can be rewarding. Plus it's flexible and pays well, and is a great career path.
People forget that sales isn't just sales. It's split up into thousands of different sections, many of which are completely unrelated.
