You pick up this working girl who's hooked on smack, who hussles and scores. "That's all I do" she says, she says "Ten bucks for head, fifteen for half-and-half". She says "Three hits a day at 35 per", you say "That's seven tricks a day at least", but she says "Sometimes I get lucky. Once this guy gives me a bill-and-half just to eat me, only time I ever came".
You figure you can save her. You sell your color tv, that keeps her off the streets a whole day. You hawk your typewriter for one jolt. Then your shotgun, your watch. A week later you say "Listen I'm a little short", but she says "No scratch, no snatch". You say "Look it is better to give", but she says "Beat off creep".
One night they spot you on the street in your skibbies trying to sell your shoes. You tell them who you are, but they nail you. Then she happens by and she says "Christ you look fucked", she says "Hang tough!". But you don't say anything, you just think "what a bum rap for a nice, sensitive guy like me".

John '00' Fleming - Nine Lives (JOOF098)

John 00 Fleming admits he's a DJ first, hence why it's taken him this long to present his debut solo artist album. Touring the Worlds clubs and festivals, Gold disc selling mix compilations, award winning Essential mixes, producing TV/Movie scores has sucked away precious studio time.

Being one of the few producers that actually produces his own music these days, Fleming has spent every single precious moment of his time working on each track to make it exactly how he visions it in his head, this is what makes all of his productions so successful and unique. Quality over quantity as the saying goes.

'Nine lives' represents a new turning point for him, Fleming being a dedicated supporter of the more specialist scene. John is going back to his roots, making music solely aimed for the dance floor with no care for the commercial mainstream. Music with soul. Music with passion. Music to represent the artist within. We think this album truly represents John 00 Fleming and his love for the more specialist music scene. Eventually an album with depth, releasing a musical story. This is one of those rare listening albums from start to finish. Yet most tracks will be heard on the dance floor, this proves the true artist within, a rare skill/breed in todays electronic World, as all the tracks are professionally written for himself, and not mainstream success. Thats where the big difference lies.
This is your chance to experience the true artist behind the name, John 00 Fleming.

01. John '00' Fleming - The Winds Of Change Are Blowing
02. John '00' Fleming vs. Airwave - United 93
03. John '00' Fleming - MMX1215
04. John '00' Fleming feat. Sona Mohapatra - Dense Clouds
05. John '00' Fleming feat. Joanna Swann - A Far Of Place
06. John '00' Fleming - Baphomets Horn
07. John '00' Fleming - Finding Ganesha
08. John '00' Fleming feat. Sasha Cooper - Fight The Darkness
09. John '00' Fleming - Last Night A DJ Saved My Night
10. John '00' Fleming feat. Joanna Swann - Bumble Lights
11. John '00' Fleming - New Beginning
12. John '00' Fleming - 1440 Minutes
13. John '00' Fleming feat. Intervurt - Trancelucent
14. John '00' Fleming - Never Forgotten
15. John '00' Fleming - Frisson
16. John '00' Fleming vs. E-Clip - Sym*bol*ism

Hieronder een comment van John zelf op de verschillende tracks van het album (bron "The Daily Telegraph").
Ik zal later ook nog wel een post doen met mn eigen opmerkingen

quote:
With a career spanning 20 years, it might come as a surprise to some that ‘Nine Lives’ is John 00 Flemings’ first solo studio album. John himself admits he's a DJ first, hence why it's taken him so long to present his debut. Touring the world, producing TV/Movie scores, whilst compiling award winning Essential mixes and gold selling mix compilations, has all taken precious studio time away.

“Trance has become a dirty word, we need to return to the ethos of how this genre gained this tag in the beginning. History shows underground djs move the scene forward to I want to show clubland there’s a more serious and soulful side to trance” John 00 Fleming

John shares a track by track guide of Nine Lives:

John 00 Fleming - ‘The Winds Of Change Are Blowing’
There’s no hiding the fact I feel pain with the current scene, this track was written when I looked back at my favourite times of when the music first took place. I took inspiration from the past and reminisced as I wrote this piece of music, it was a very emotional yet powerful week in the studio as I wrote this. Eventually I feel change is coming.

John 00 Fleming vs. Airwave - ‘United 93’
I’ve known Airwave for well over a decade, so why it took us this long to get in the studio I have no idea. We sat in his studio chatting about our favourite tracks, our favourite moments while playing the ones that were special to us. By the end of the day United 93 was born completely fuelled with passion.

John 00 Fleming - ‘MMX1215’
Before I begin to write a piece of music, I often look to my DJ box to see what style I’m missing in order to fill that gap. Again I keep looking back in order to move forward as the current market place doesn’t offer me inspiration. Remember when Progressive Trance, actually used to be Progressive Trance ? So do I!

John 00 Fleming - ‘Dense Clouds’ (Feat. Sona Mohapatra)
Much of my inspiration for this album stemmed from my trips to India. On one particular trip my good friend Nikhill Chinipa introduced me to one of India’s finest singers, Sona Mohapatra. Before we knew it, we where discussing plans to write a track together. This style pushed me in a completely different direction alongside co-producer Mad Maxx.

John 00 Fleming - ‘A Far Off Place’ (Feat. Joanna Swann)
I adore Joanna’s voice, there’s something morish about it. It’s hypnotising and sends me into dreamland. The music was written to accompany the texture of her voice, I kept picturing myself on a secluded beach writing this and still today it takes me back to that Astral projection state.

John 00 Fleming - ‘Baphomets Horn’
This was written as a DJ tool from the off. No huge breakdowns. No power super saws (!). It’s a filler track to make a bridge between energy levels or to join genres. These type of tracks are the most important tools in any proper DJ’s record box, something that is overlooked in todays generation.

John 00 Fleming - ‘Finding Ganesha’
I think I should be Indian due to the amount of times I visit this wonderful country. It’s coincidental that I kept coming to India around Ganesh Chaturthi a festival celebrate the birthday of their Indian God Ganesha. I was given a gift of a wooden carving of Ganesha who watched over me as I made this track in the studio.

John 00 Fleming - ‘Fight The Darkness’ (Feat Sascha Cooper)
I often get weird, wonderful and strange ideas flying around in my head. These then get transformed into music, hence why I make the tracks myself. I wondered what it would be like if I added poetry into Trance? I guess it worked with help from Sascha Cooper. Oh then I added a little Goa melody for added flavour!

John 00 Fleming - ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Night’
No harm in having a banter with my track titles…yes a little tongue in cheek. The market is saturated with people who can’t DJ, I see this plenty of times when on the road touring. I often have to restart the night and build the crowd. It’s a shame the skill of a DJ is being lost.

John 00 Fleming - ‘Bumble Lights (Feat Joanna Swann)’
Every album should have a fun moment and I think this one hits the spot perfectly. I have no intention to become a pop star or make commercial Trance records, hence the different musical direction. It was fun working with vocals and writing another song with Joanna Swan, but that’s where it stops.

John 00 Fleming - ‘New Beginning’
I often get asked what track that I’m proud of, I’d have to say New beginning. When released I felt it got overlooked as people headed for the more banging flipside ‘Temple of spice’, but this was also at a time of the Euro Trance revolutions. Times are changing now as we see Trance reinventing itself. I wanted people to revisit it.

John 00 Fleming - ‘1440 Minutes’
I took me 24 hours to make this track with no rest in between. Aha, now the penny has dropped and you get the title! I had this track idea in my head for many years, it took the back burner for a while until the day I unleashed some banging madness in my studio!

John 00 Fleming - ‘Trancelucent (Feat. Intervurt)’
This band are local to me and I first got introduced to them via my old publishing company. I instantly knew I could make one of their indie esq tracks into an electronic version. Contact was made and ‘Trancelucent’ was born. I can’t stop playing this track, very catchy!

John 00 Fleming - ‘Never Forgotten’
This track was written a long time ago, at a time when I was feeling pretty sad. That current week the Worlds news was focussing on wars that where happening around the World. I don’t and will never understand wars. It saddens me to see loss of life on both sides. On this particular day our local news showed fallen heroes returning home in coffins. They will never be forgotten.

John 00 Fleming - ‘Frisson’
Again another track that was written a while back, but I think it deservers a place for my album. This could have easily been a 00.db track as it was written around the same time as the 00.db album, so you can hear that I was in 00.db mode! I actually kept getting Frisson writing this, hence the name!

John 00 Fleming vs. E-Clip - 'Sym*bol*ism’
There’s a connection between how I meet the closest friends around me. The Digital Blonde, Christopher Lawrence, Airwave, Micky Noise and now E-Clip. That connection is our shared passion for music. I mean true serious music. This brings a warmly feeling you are not alone and have family support. It was a true honour to make a track with Marko (E-Clip).

Seth Troxler - The lab 03

We can exclusively reveal the tracklisting details for Seth Troxler's forthcoming "The Lab" mix on NRK Music. Out in October, this stunning 2CD mix compilation finds the Visionquest man at the top of his game, effortlessley blending over two and a half hours of the finest underground house and electronic dance. Featured artists on the mix include Ricardo Villalobos, Dinky, Deniz Kurtel, Oni Ayhun, Andrew Weatherall, DBX (in a collaboration with Moritz Von Oswald) and Lawrence. Seth gives us a little insight into the mix, and how he approached it;

"When I was asked to do this mix, it was a huge honor for me. To be involved in a mix series presented by such an iconic label as NRK, witch has previously featured two of the best DJs of our time, Dice and Steve Bug, I felt a great amount of pressure to deliver something different. My interpretation of the concept behind the Lab series was to present ideas like a scientist working in some secret base off the cost of Myanmar…. when night talk with spider monkeys has just gone too far, what do you do, what’s there left to do? Delivering a mix compilation is very different to mixing in a club or doing a podcast. It’s about making something that will stand the test of time, something that doesn't feature all the current hits, so won’t feel dated a month after its release. Only time will tell whether I’ve managed to achieve this."

CD01
01. Hatikvah - Big Mind
02. Bearweasel - Button Down The Moose (Echologist Dub)
03. David Alvarado - Beautification
04. Lindstrom Vs Mungolian Jetset - A Blast Of Loser (9406 Version)
05. Hati Munetsi - Ceremony (African Mix)
06. Tommy Bones - After The Club
07. Home & Garden - Themes Of Yesterday
08. Dinky - Polvo
09. Soul Capsule - Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)
10. DBX - City On The Edge Of Forever
11. Daze Maxim - Tomorrow Universe
12. Deepak Sharma & Dieter Krause - Wolkenreise (DJ Qu Remix)
13. David Durango - Mosaic
14. Vernon Bara & Igor Vicente - Don't Feel No Way
15. DeWalta - Farina
16. Masomenos – Sunsun

CD02
01. POD - Rozetta Says Bad Shit
02. Ark - Arkuarium
03. Exercise One - Prowl
04. Chaim feat. Meital De Razon - Alive (Deniz Kurtel Remix)
05. Ric Y Martin - Teiwass
06. Oni Ayhun - OAR001-A
07. Crosson & Merveille - No Hastel
08. Und - Rodeo
09. Dinky - This Is Your Heart
10. Dntel - Dreams (Lawrence Mix 02)
11. WestBoy - S L I V A (Chaim Remix)
12. Daniel Bortz & Sascha Sibler - Fantasy
13. Superpitcher - White Lightning
14. Radioactive Man – Fed-Ex To Munchen (Andrew Weatherall Version Edit)
15. Dinky - Time To Lose It

Seth Troxler - The Lab 03 will be released in October on 2CD (Mixed), 2CD (DJ friendly Unmixed), digital album and various 12" vinyl samplers.

-> Troxler is zijn hype niet waard, vind ik zelf. Maar NRK is een label met veel geschiedenis en ik hoop dat hij met iets verrassend uit de hoek komt.

Dj Spen & Karizma - House masters

quote:
Baltimore's finest DJ Spen and Karizma are the latest artists to join the illustrious ranks of bonafide House Masters.

We have Mary J Blige to thank for the formation of Spen & Karizma as one of the leading lights of the 90's house scene. The pair were working on a remix of her track 'Beautiful'when it happened; "I turned to Spen,” Karizma recollects, “and I said, you know what, we should just do this, we should take over the world, man!”

Talk to any House music head and mention DJ Spen and Karizma, and the likelyhood is that their eyes will instantly light up, due to the fact that these Baltimore producers represent all that is good about quality house music. As two thirds of the Basement Boys with Teddy Douglas they beguiled clubland with their superb and sophisticated beats and gospel vocals, and have stayed true to their sound ever since, establishing impeccable reputations along the way. They have been instrumental in the development of house music into its current form and are more than deserving of the ultimate title of House Masters.

It was the in 1995 when the pair first met up serendipitously through the Baltimore club scene. Their paths began to cross at leading the local nightspot Club Paradox where Spen was resident, and at the radio station V103 where both Karizma and Spen had regular slots.

There followed a string of Spen & Karizma releases on Basement Boys and other respected house labels, as well as remix work for some of the biggest names in the business, including such luminaries as Alicia Keys, Everything But The Girl and even Michael Jackson. The pair also worked with some of the most respected names in the house music industry, including the likes of Su Su Bobien, Bob Sinclar and fellow Baltimore native Ron Carroll.

Their careers were intertwined for many years and now although working on their own individual projects and touring relentlessly they remain they best of friends and fellow producers.

Here we celebrate their work. On this album you will find a collection of 20 unmixed Spen and Karizma classics that define their unique Baltimore sound. Featuring the unforgettable 'Craze At Midnight', 'Good Morning', 'Gabryelle' and 'A Feelin' alongside Spen & Karizma remixes of Cajmere & Dajae’s 'Brighter Days, DJ Gregory’s 'Don’t Panic' and Elements Of Life featuring Lisa Fischer 'Love Will Know'.

The release also includes 3 brand new remixes exclusive to this compilation; Karizma featuring DJ Spen '4 The Love' (Kaytronik 2011 Remix), M.A.S Collective featuring Judy Peterson 'Release Your Mind' (Spen & Karizma Remix - 2011 Edit) and Jasper Street Company 'God Helps Those' (Spen & Karizma Vocal 2011 Re-Edit).
